Bicolor Blenny Weird Behavior

Yes, I know the title pretty much describes all blennies...

I've had my Bicolor Blenny since early February, and he has been in the DT since mid-March (he and my firefish were my first fish). Up until recently, he exhibited typical behavior -- poking his head out of the rockwork and swimming briefly to another one of his favority hidey-holes in the rockwork. For the past couple weeks, he has been swimming constantly in the upper part of the tank. Sometimes he swims back and forth across the tank, and sometimes he "hovers" in a particular spot for a time. In fact, he never hangs out in the rockwork anymore. I've also noticed that he sleeps up high in the tank; sometimes on the algae clip that I keep in the upper right side of the tank, and sometimes on top of my MagFloat that I keep in the rear right of the tank. He doesn't appear to be sleeping in the rockwork at all.

He doesn't appear to be stressed, and he still picks at algae on the rocks and overflow. He also eats frozen prepared foods and nori with the rest of the fish at feeding time. The last additions to the tank were my Royal Gramma and my Foxface, which I added from QT in early June. The blenny and my McCosker's Wrasse sometimes pick at each other, but that has been going on for a few months now and never escalates.

Any ideas on what is going on, or is he just been a typical weird blenny?

Mine has done the exact same thing. He was always holed up until recently. Now he swims around the tank like he owns it. He'll even attack my hand sometimes - probably learned that from the maroon clown. :D I've just chalked it up to him getting more comfortable with his surroundings. I also find it interesting how my bigger fish (tangs, dwarf angels) will scrap with one another on occasion, but these smaller fish & bottom dwellers get completely ignored by them.

Interesting...just goes to show that every fish is different! Totally agree with you about the smaller fish and bottom dwellers. We always laugh at how none of the fish in my tank even notice that my firefish exists. I'm sure he likes it that way too. :)

My McCoskers wrasse loves to act like a tough guy, siding up to the other fish and flashing his fins. No one takes him seriously, except the blenny. One time the blenny nipped him on the forehead and that sent the wrasse into a tizzy. :)

When I had a Tailspot he would swim up to the powerhead & swim in the current for 5 to 10 minutes at a crack, like he was working out on a treadmill lol. He liked to irritate the Randall & once swam down & bopped him on the head so fast I don't think the Randall even knew what happened. Blennies are fun little fish, so much personality!!
