my angelfish just died for no reason today. No ammonia in tank, nitrates are around 12.5ppm. He was perfectly healthy last night then today just died. he has been eating and swimming just fine and wasnt harassed by any other fish.
I am sad, he was my favorite.
Anyone have any idea why this happened?
Was the fish just too hard to keep in a 2 month old aquarium?

I added 3 chromis and a condi anemone to cycle 2 months ago about. (condy was a mistake to add so early, but it was 5 bucks and it survived)
about 2 weeks ago I added a dragon goby and the angel.
Last week I tried to add 2 chromis and they died from being harassed by the old 3.
I also added a fiji leather, featherduster, and coral banded shrimp around the same time as chromis.
Everything else is are doing just fine right now.

I didnt think adding coral/shrimp counted as adding fish.

I have a 90 gallon tank so I thought I could add stuff a bit faster than a smaller one.

Thanks

don't corals and shrimp have to relieve themselfs? So yes, they contribute to the bioload of a tank. Those angels love to eat algae off of rocks, so I think they should be added to a more mature tank IMO.

Yea it was grazing a ton on my rocks. they have a ton of coraline algea on them. I think it is just strange that he showed no signs of being sick or anything. He just kicked the bucket right away.

What do you all think is the best way to lower nitrates? Water changes?

Thanks

water changes. Do a couple 20% changes this week.

Well, an angel won't eat coraline algae. He'll eat whatever else is growing on them and he'll eat it FAST! Definitly feed them algae strips.

i think we all easily forget that sometimes the fish just get old and die...
it's not always our fault.
but it usually is. :)

Bicolor angels are some of the more delicate dwarf angels. They normally do better in well established tanks with none aggressive inhabitants. They are normally fairly shy and a busy tank can create stress on them (not that yours is). It is unfortunate that it died but as previously stated sometimes things just die. It is part of it.
