He got in a motorcycle accident and wasn't wearing a helmet and went head first into a car winshield :eek1:
He will live as he got lucky, but wow.

Yeah, he has been catching hell here for the last year for not wearing a helmet.

Terry Bradshaw warned him one year ago to the day (saw it on ch 2) that he should give up the bike until he retires.....

But why should he give up living his life just beacuse he plays football? It'd make for a boring life I think. Can't do this, can't do that. What fun is that?

He shouldn't give it up, but as far as I know the NFL contracts are not gauranteed. This could have been the end to his career and his money. He can ride a bike again when he is 35.

Yea I agree, I mean its still fun to ride with a helmet on, gezz if someone said I'll give you millions of dollars, just don't ride a bike till after I'm done with you, I think I could find other "fun" things to do with my money... like driving a ferrari lol some people just think they are invinsible

His contract does nto have anything about riding motorcycles, he is one of very few in the NFL who do not have anything in their contracts.....although after cowher gets done with him, im sure he wont be back ona bike

I think it was stupid of the organization to make the player bigger than the team, they saw what happened to winslow and instead of telling your multi-million dollar stud QB hey if you ride your sitting the bench, they opted to let him do whatever he wanted. Cowher shouldn't have to say a word to him IMO, I don't know how badly he was hurt, but I don't think he'll ever be the same QB again, I'm sure hitting a windshield facefirst could be enough to make you realize hey I'm an idiot for not having on a helmet....

why not wear one, cuz it's not cool? you already won the superbowl idiot, your an idol in pittsburgh, how much cooler can you get?

cuz its uncomfortable? well I'm sure its more comfortable than he's feeling in Intensive care right now

or maybe he's just to macho.... maybe he tought that windshield a lesson.

All I can say is you wouldn't see Tom Brady riding around on a motorcycle, he's got three rings, you wouldn't see peyton manning riding around on one, he's got the TD passing record... shoot you wouldn't even see Troy Aikman on a motorcycle and all he does is hold a microphone.

Bottom Line, Big Ben is a moron for not listening to everyone and being more responsible for himself on and off the field, but i wish him the best and hope he has a full recovery.

O and go Cowboys

Its his choice!!! I don't like to where one either!!!! But i have to in the state of WV. Wish it wasn't the law but it is so we have to deal with it.

What does having a broken jaw and some cuts have to do with football lol I don't know where you could have even got that idea!

Ahhhh what does that have to do with anything??? While your at it I don't think you would see Elton John on one either, but what does that have to do with the price of eggs in china?? All of those guys are way older. Are you saying that Ben will never have another good season in his life because of this accident?

And how do you know they don't ride a motorcycle do you guys hang out on the weekends or something???

How would you like it if your job told you that you couldn't do something any more itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s his life let him live it how he wants!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hammer:
:uzi: Cowboys

Umm if my "JOB" was "playing" football for millions of dollars I think I could make due without a motorcycle... there are plenty of other things to buy when your a millionaire... but guessing that you are a millionaire you probably already knew that huh.... as for you wearing a helmet, it is your choice... I'm just saying its a bad decision not to wear one when statistically riders without them are more prone to severe head injuries than those who wear helmets when they collide with another vehicle... Let's keep the stereotyping and personal attacks out of this thread please.

and like I said, I didn't know how bad his injuries were, if you only here serious but stable condition, you think broken legs and torn ligaments, not o he bruised his face... he got lucky, but does he have any brain injury? I mean honestly I've owned bikes before, I know its kinda crappy to wear a helmet... but I also know that if I don't wear one and something bad happens I'm going to have to pay for it...

Bottom line, you live for say 80 years, play football pro for maybe 10, its a small price to pay to wear a helmet when your chancing your career which is worth millions of dollars. Enough said country boy, your chicken pen is in need of cleanin....:p

I don't think its right to make sterotypes about this state we were having a nice discussion and you had to make it personal!

Here is what I would like to know, what it written in his contract that he couldn't do certain "risky" sports. Having known a couple of NFL guys, things like basketball, motorcyles, skiing, were not allowed.

Aaron Boone of the yankees had a Basketball is forbidden in his contract and he blew out his knew playing basketball. He had to forgo $6 million and was cut from the team.

I hope that Ben is back and healthy next season. I don't think you can recover from 7 hours of surgery in a couple of months.

Go WVA

rich

Every NFL contract has standard language that states if you are hurt outside of football that you can have money withheld or recouped. They don't have to go into specifics of motorcycle riding, sky diving or even basketball. On top of that the Steelers sent him a letter last year about his riding without a helmet.

BTW he didn't even have a license. According to PA law you ahve to be over 21 and have had you license for 2 years to not be able to wear a helmet. So technically he broke PA law by not wearing it. Along with the fact he didn't have a license to drive a motorcycle. He had a permit that expired in March.

All I gotta say is that he is lucky to be alive. How many people do you know of that were cruising along on a street-bike without a helmet and hit a windshield face first and lived to tell about it. Not many.

lol i think he might have done more damage to the car lol i kinda felt bad for the car i wouldn't want to get his by him doing any speed lol jk he is a big dude though

I ride a CBR 1100XX Blackbird.

This is my opinion:

If you don't wear a helmet you are a complete moron/idiot, that's my opinion.
Ben should of just listened to them and not rode. It's his life, THROUGH the steelers. They are his employeer. Just like if your work bans smoking on the property. You must follow. If he does not want to listen to them, then he shouldn't play for them.
I guarantee that it will be in his contract next year. Michael Jordan loves riding, but when he was playing he could not.
Hell, he even has his own race team now!
I crashed two years ago, avoiding a deer. If I would of not had my helmet on, I would be dead from impact or I would still be going through facial reconstructive surgery.

This is just my 2 cents.

GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say you can ride without a helmet because it is your freedom but you still have to wear a seatbelt - makes absolutely no sense to me. The funniest thing is a sign on I-79 "bucket up next million miles" but it should add hey if you do not want to wear a helmet go right ahead, go figure.

Brian everything that govt does makes sense to them... If you look deep enough you will find the real reasons things are done.

Seatbelt laws are about revenue. The law is easy to enforce and generates a LOT of money for the sates who adopt it. The laws are easy to pass becuase they appeal to most peoples common sense (and therefore the fines don't seem as much like a money grab by the state). Seatbelts are proven to save lives... Most of the laws follow the Federal standards and are hard to fight on a constitutional basis.

This state (PA) is well known for traffic laws designed as revenue generation tools disguised as safety measures. The headlights in construction zones is another examlple. The state would have you believe that motorists have spent years mowing down construction workers. The fact is that the only time a PA construction worker was ever mowed down, was when the guy in that dump truck had a heartattack and ran through the barriers a few years back. Headlights would not have helped :) The rest of the job site accidents have all been BY CONSTRUCTION VEHICHLES MOWING DOWN THEIR OWN LABOR CREWS! However, tug on a few heart strings, post a few "my daddy werks here" signs and you can convince people that new laws need passed to keep people safe (who were never in danger).

Shall we mention the artificially low speed limits throughout our state or the speed traps that speckle our entire region?

Vehicle inspection? What a scam! Worse yet the emissions testing (one of the biggest scams ever foisted on the PA taxpayer). Remember your car has an emissions tester built in, that is what the check engine light is for. (side note: most garages lose their asses on emissions tests, it's only the state that makes out. They only do emissions testing to be able to compete with the guy down the street who offers them also. You will not find a garage that WANTS to do emissions testing).

Back to helmets:
Helmets have a lot of controversial data that shows benefits and in many cases negatives. HOWEVER none of this has antyhing to do with the law. There is no revenue in enforcing a helmet law (people wear them when it is the law because it's to easy to get caught if they don't. Additionaly, there really are not that many riders, and many of them DO wear a helmet regardless of the law). It appears that the truth about the PA helmet law is far from what the Gov wants us to believe (that he is for personal rights and a champion of free choice ... remember the seatbelt law he won't speak a about when asked?).

In a nutshell the PA helmet law was unconstitutional and they were getting attacked bigtime with a lot of big money from lobby groups. Instead of spending a LOT of money fighting the lobbyists in court (remember there is no revenue in enforcment so why fight for something that earns nothing), the sate simply skirted around the whole issue AND sized upon an opportunity to paint the suits in charge as champions of the little guy. You can't sue them for not having a helmet law, but you can sue them for trying to enforce an unconstitutional law. In other words it was not a matter of giving people rights, but rather the fact that they were about to spend a lot of money to be told they didn't have the authority to dictate those rights. Most voters that don't ride could care less about a helmet law and those that do ride only care if they are told they MUST wear a helmet. The "pro helmet" camp is rather small and not worth the trouble to pander to. The helmet law could have been ammended to follow the federal guidlines, but that would have also been a waste of money (remember there is no revenue in a helmet law) and earned NO friends (instead most current helmets would not meet the standards and the effect would be to **** off more voters than you made happy).

FWIW, I (like a moron) used to cruise at near 200 MPH on a GSXR 1100 (V & H pipe and stage 3 jet kit) with no shirt, no helmet, shorts and flip flops. Somewhere along the line I have realized that it was not a smart thing to do... I don't ride bikes anymore, but would surely wear a helmet and appropriate clothing.

I digress... lets get back to fish :)
