thinking to go with 180 but there is 220 for sale for 500$ i have everything ready for 180 or 220 mag 18, MTC-HSA 250 skimmer, tek light 60 inch with 6 bulbs, and 4 par 38 led, about 200 lbs of live rock and 2 inch of send i just dont want to spend crazy money on new setup should i go with 180 or 220 please help thank you

The 220 would be better IMO. The main reason is because if you go from 125 to 180, you will fill up the 180 just as quick as the 125. If you go from 125 to 220, you have many more options for fish and/or corals and the fish will be happier with the larger swimming space

would not be a big decision for me... 220 all the way. Good luck can't wait to see the build thread. Lots of pix please!!!

thanks jherrin i started this hobby 4 years ago my first tank was i belive 50 after that 65 i think then 75 then 90 and now 125 i know if i will go with 180 its going to be to small soon i will go with 220 thanks guys

The 220 is the worst tank imo.Its to deep and hard to work in. I would go with the 180 its 6 inches shorter than the 220, and if your going to have coral's or work in the tank its a lot easier.

If you are shorter then 5'8", then the 180 would likely be a better choice....that way you reach everything in the tank with your hands. 30" high tanks are hard to reach into for people that aren't 6'. I assure you that the extra 40 gallons won't make much of a difference except for the fact that you'll need that much more light bulb to hit the sand bed.

those 40 extra gallons would make a big difference

I really don't think so. The extra 40 gallons of water will make the tank SLIGHTLY more stable but there is no way those extra six inches of height will make a bit of difference in the behavior of the fish. I think it's all up to the preference of the owner. I personally love the look of tall tanks but they are a PITA to clean/light.
