yellow head moray is what i've seen them sold as also have seen them as fimbrated moray. i had a small one years ago, very aggresive.

It's Gymnothorax undulatus, and as said above it is sometimes called a the fimbriated moray or yellow/sulfur headed moray, but don't confuse it with Gymnothorax fimbriatus. Both are very, very aggressive fish, but the undulated gets 2' bigger.

Tough call, the head sure looks like a fimby, but the body sure doesn't..

Actually the difference in body and size makes it an easy call ;) It's Gymnothorax undulatus. Just take a look at fishbase if you want confirmation.

Guess you guys are right, I googled the Undy for images, the ones I have seen didn't have the yellowish head, but a lot of the pics certainly do.:reading:

According to fishbase, they get to 150cm which is 4.9 feet. So really big :D Not sure how long it will live, but IIRC there are public aquarium records of Green Moray's living around 20 years or so.

Slowly. Finally ready for fish but slightly unlevel. So, I have to drain it and re-level tomorrow. Then, it's first fish time!

But, I'll stop hijacking your thread - good luck with the eel. He looks awesome.
