ok i have a flame angel, i had him in my tank for about a week and a half, my tank is 55 gallons. i just bought a yellow tang and as soon as i put him into my display tank the flame angel started being really aggressive towards him. He would fling his tail on him and even tried bitting him.. its been 2 days now, the flame is still being aggressive but its considerably less than the 1st day.. is this normal? what can i do to limit the aggression? will this stop with time or do i have to get rid of the flame????
please help..

note: i have a 200 gallon tank but wont set up til next year so thats where the tang will go in the future

Well the tang is clearly too small for the tank you have. The Flame Angel was there first and feels that the tang will eat his algae. Problems like this one are always made worse by small tanks such as yours.

so should i just take back the yellow tang.. what if i add another fish? will he still be aggressive towards others..
i thought the yellow tang would be good for now bc he's small and by the time he grew out i would switch him to my other tank

But both are in the same ecological niche or at least they perceive such. I would take the tang back if you are able to do so. Wait for the tang until you get your large tank online.

Not everyone will appreciate my view point, but in my opinion the tank is small for a flame also and the flame should go into the new tank, too. :D

ok i will try to sell the tang bc the fish store i bought it was pretty far and i dont think they'll take him back.. i thought flames could be in as little as 20 gallons systems?. or thats what i've read

The problem is that flame angels (and other small angels) are grazers. When you reduce the size of the grazing area they will often starve to death.
