Big water change

Usually I do a 25 gal water change every two weeks but yesterday I did a big 55 gal water change to my system. Vacuumed and cleaned the sand bed, clean the skimmer and filter socks. Blow detritus off the rock work and corals. Take out all the junks that have been collecting on the sand bed (I do this once every 6 months or so)

This monring I checked the tank before going to work and all I can say is WOW .... the pollyps extension on my sps at least doubled.

It goes to show that tank maintenance and water changes are very important for your corals growth.

Dusting off the tank for the meeting are we every time I stir up my sandbed everything in the tank goes into feed mode, which also makes spot feeding everything a snap!

Still got three more weeks so I'll have another water change before then .. Sometime this kind of motivations give me more energy to get me off my but-t so it's all good.

After refilling the tank I was 1 gal short so I had to mix another batch just to add more water to the tank.

I also think the water changes improved the ORP temporarily and that is why the pollyps extended like that. Two days after the water change my I checked my ORP and it was low around 110. I hooked up my carbon and a day latter my ORP improved to 230 and I am getting better pollyps extension.

Hi, i add reef roid to my 28g aquarium i got 2 small soft coral and 2 small clown fish, 3inch life sand and a lots of live rock, my aquarium its b running for over a month my amonia levels was pretty good but i add a table spon instead a teaspon of reef roid, now my levels of amonia went like really high i did a 40% water change yerstuday and 20 this morning should i do another one 2night or tomorow? I dont want my aquarium to cycle again,

No you should let your bacteria do the work. The ammonia level will go down pretty quick after the first water change. Sometime we over react and do too much will also do damage.

I did a bi weekly water changes yesyterday and this morning I noticed the pollyps extension was again awesome. Something in the water change is making my corals very happy. This goes to show that we need to keep up with regular water changes for the corals to be happy.
