BigBear's Frag Tank

You have 2 options if you want a herbie style overflow.

1. Use the 2 holes for your drains and go over top with the return.
2. Drill the tank for a return.

That's about what I had concluded. Turns out it's tempered so drilling is out of the question.

I was worried about the number of 90* elbows I would have to put in to get it out of the stand of over the back but ultimately I think it'll be worth it. At least that's my assumption after watching YouTube videos about the durso and herbie drains. I ordered a Sicce 2.0 and 3.0. I figured whichever I don't use for the tank will work fine for a water mixing station.

Sorry i should have been a little clearer. I meant for you to drill the back panel which is not tempered. You can check http://deepblueprofessional.com/resources.html your tank is further down the list. Only panel that is Tempered is the bottom. This way you only end up with 1 90 elbow into the bulk head.

I think I'm just going to go over the top with the return. Thanks for the resource though.

I just need to pin in the panels. That space at the bottom will go away once it's secured.

Panels secured. Starting the sump.

Headed to Vegas for a bachelor party. Which works great because the rest of the plumbing comes on Tuesday anyways.

Well ****. So much for that as a RO/DI tank.

I just spent 30mins marking the other side for water levels.

Alright. Well I think it's plumbed now. At least version 1.0 is glued up. Waiting until after work tomorrow for a water test. Any advice on the sump/plumbing?

Water tested last night. I was too frustrated to take any pictures though.

One of the baffles in the sump broke almost immediately. I had a heck of a time with the overflow plumbing. I had the pipes cut long initially knowing I could cut them down which is what eventually had to happen. Finally I was able to tune it in though. Now if the main gets completely shut off then the water rises to just over the emergency which that goes full siphon and quickly drains the overflow box.

I'll post a pic when I get in the garage.

That sucks- but the 20 gallon white brute containers work better. The rectangular ones. Very sturdy. I'm using 1 as my saltwater mixer (I'll only be making 15 gallons a time once a week).

I originally planned to use the same hdx 12 but it bowed to much and a seam cracked after about 4 days.

I'm using 2 of the square 28 gallon brutes for rodi storage. Food grade, no bowing even when filled with 25 gallons water.

Hm. I haven't seen a square 28gallon brute anywhere. Where did you pick it up at?

Got them from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005...=N9QY1RQEQZHR4HH7E9YE&dpPl=1&dpID=91iWoitROJL

Look around in there though- I got these for $33 each, but most are going for 45-50.

Just s note- the 21 inch square measurement doesn't take the handles into account. So it actually ends up being 21.5 x 25 around the top . I had to cut a handle off one for them to go side by side on my 48 inch wide rack. I won't be handling it unless it's empty, so no big deal to lose a handle.

Also, the lids are a rip off- use a piece of plywood or something to cover.

I know it's way too early for coral but I'm trying to save them from my biocube that is slowing crashing.
