Bimaculatus anthias, who has them?

I haven't kept them but have some other anthias species im just wondering where did you find these? the only place I can find them is liveaquaria, and they only ever have females.

I just got a trio from the lfs this week. They came in with a different name but I think they are bimaculas from the pics in Scott Michaels book. One fish died at the store, one was listless when I put him in the tank and one is pretty active in the tank and feeding. I've only had them for about 36 hours so I'll know more in the near future. I'll be anxious to know how they ship. Keep me informed.

From what i have heard they ship well, the problem is getting them to feed. I have seen them at LFS but they are way too expensive there $120 so i just ordered 4 females from Live aquaria. I will let them decide who will be the male, they can change sex remember so is sometimes better to buy all females and you will still wind up with a male.

Let me know what you think of the fish when they come in. I'm real interested of getting a few more females and like you hoping one will change to a male. Good luck!!

I think I'm down to one fish. The fish that was real listless has not been seen since the first day. The one I have left has been eating but is not out in the open alot like the other anthias species I have. She likes to hang out around corals and under rockwork and grabs food as it passes by. Don't know if in time if she will become more brave or if this species is more shy. I'll be in touch as time goes on.

How many did you order? Male and some girls??

I see that you have listed a 90 gal as your current tank. Are you concerned at all about having 4 of these guys (or girls) in a 90 gal?
The reason I ask is I just ordered a female from liveaquaria.com myself. They have males listed as in stock but I was concerned about getting more than 1 due to having a 75 gal tank.

I would not put more than 1 male in that size tank, these guys will fight.
I just placed mine in the main tank and they hung around the front of the tank for about 5 minutes and then they all hid, but 1 is starting to venture out, the lyretail anthias are looking at them as if they are some sort of freak show, they go up to them and just stare.

I'm curious how they are adapting to the other anthias? I have about 30 assorted anthias and some of the shyer sp haven't made it. (Fathead, Tuka's) I'm wondering if you feel this species would do ok with bartletts, squamipinnis, hutchi's and one parvo.

Julio I will be very interested in how these do with your lyretails I have 4 female and one male lyretail. I looked at the Bimaculatus but decided against it because I thought I had too much light for these guys.
