Bio Balls in skimmer?

My nitrates are getting a little high so I wanted to add some bio balls for more filtration but the only place with good flow would be my skimmer (under the collection cup where the water is constantly bubbling). I used to have a sump, but it was too much trouble for my parents who had to take care of it while I was at school and they eventually stopped trying to after Sandy hit and we lost power.

Would putting bio balls here work or is it not the proper kind of water flow. I have a Reef Octopus HOB.

Bio-Balls are a Nitrate Factory.

All that will do is give you more Nitrate not less.

I thought the whole point of bio balls was to establish bacteria populations to decrease nitrite, ammonia, and nitrates? What about chaeto, would that work well in the skimmer?

It probably helps with Ammonia and Nitrite but not Nitrate.

Nothing tops Quality Live Rock in terms of Filtration (Plus it looks natural and gives your Fish places to Hide and Sleep making them feel safer too).

I do not know anybody in the Saltwater Hobby that uses Bio-Balls.

It is a Freshwater Thing.

I'm building a 180 at the moment, what's nitrates, LOL
I use a skimmer in my first chamber in my sump, return pump in middle, and refugium on opposite side with live rock and Cheato
