I am setting up a new bio cube 29. I have gotten 40 pounds of Liverock that just needs washing and will ready to go in the tank. I havent added water or sand to the tank. I like to hear ideas to start off with to get best results in this great tank!! So please anyone that has setup a sucessful nano I like your info on things like the back sump setup?? do I use the things that come with the tanks Filter cartridge, bio balls, bio ball stranier, over flow tray? some I know say yes some say no...?
Also do I need more flow? should I add a power head to the tank? if so to the main tank or the drill and add it to the back part of the tank?? any help would be great. I have two 6 gallon nanos going one doing great other not so hot. So I like to get things going right 1st off. I look foward to hearing back from great people on the site!

Well I got sand in my tank and rock now. Tank still needs a bit more water, another trip to the LPS. I got a good landscape setup I think. I will post pics tomarrow. Also does anyone think I need more flow than just the reg bio cube pump??? I tend to think it be a good idea but I dont want over do things.

what are the specs on the tank. what is the gph on the pump? what watts are the two pcs. also what do u plan on keeping? that helps determin what flow rate u need.

info

info

tank is 29 gallons
1-36 watt true actinic blub
1- 36 watt 10,000k daylight blub
a pump with flow rate of 243 gph
size is 20'1x20.75'w19.25"L

also big question to use the bio balls or not??? thanks

in my opinion It is a fine set up for soft corals, zoas, mushrooms, and maybe some lps. But for sps you definatly need more flow and probably more light, so your total setup would need changed (flow and lighting anyways). As for the bio balls there for biological filtration which is also a reason you get live rock, so if you have at least a pound per gallon, you wont need the bioballs. And I think a pound per gallon is fine. Much more and you wont have much room for corals, and personally I like ALOT of corals!

thanks

thanks

Well some usefull info. I have 43 pounds of live rock in there at this point so I guess I take the bio balls out. its alot of pock but its a nice looking set up. I have pics alittle later today after going to the LPS to get more water. thanks
anyone else have any good ideas thanks I await for more ideas!
help me make this one heck of a tank

the only thing is, i would do rockwork with some caves and stuff, looks a bit nicer. what are you looking to have fishwise??

fish wise I will have a pair of clowns but I dont know what type as of yet.... I have a pair or maroons and pair of trues in other tanks. So any cool ideas about clowns that would be good in this tank. I like to have a royal grama, some type of dotty back, lemon peal angel, and maybe a wrasse. I know that about all I can hold if even all that. I love fish with good personilty. any ideas what yall like in cubes? thanks

about rock work there are a ton of caves and tunnels.... none of them huge..... should I rework it to make bigger caves.....

Well its been about a week and half now and things are settled down alot. All my numbers are coming down and I getthing that nice brown coverage on my rocks as u can see. I do have a few crabs and one snail and a lone dansel enjoying the huge tank alone. here are 3 pics. any ideas to share let me hear them thanks..... still up in the air what type of fish I want in the tank full time.

pics coming soon!

pics coming soon!

Its going great!
Well I have new pics tonight or tomarrow morning. I have added some corals now
Frog spawn, green star Polyps, some small zoos and a really bad lookin plate coral left from my old tank that was just hanging out in the nano cube 6 I have. Also moved a small Bubble Tip Anemone just for my clowns. I have moved in the clowns also.
I started a nano 6 about a year ago with two tiny maroon clowns and they are giants now..... They are so much happier now in this large tank. and yes I know they will out grown this tank soon too. But I love them so much they really are some of the best looking maroons I ever seen.
Look for pics soon!!!

here comes the Pics!
