Bio Cube Owner's Thread

If the tank is under 84° it will be fine. It isn't the high temperature that hurts the corals it is the swings. I have seen long term tanks kept at 86° in the summer. Fans can help alot as well as running the AC.

Re: Bio Cube Owner's Thread

i am in need of multiple replies and some serious advice. i want to upgrade the lights in my 29g BC but i only want to do it once. what is the best light upgrade given the following conditions.

1. must remain closed top
2. want to have little or no restriction on what i keep in tank based on lighting (i.e. sps/clams etc.)
3. i live in houston and the ambient temperature in my house can reach 76-78 in summertime and i do not plan on using a chiller

thanks in advance.

Saw your tank in the ntotm thread. Nice. I am assuming that you are using your products. Would you give a detailed description of how you have your tank set up? Mods, lighting, etc. Back chambers setup, media, skimmer,

It may be easier if you google, StevieT's Red Sea Max. Then let me know if you have any questions. All topics are indexed on the first page.

Summary if you don't do that:

Outer Orbit MH/T5/LED
media basket
1. Filter floss
2. Purigen
3. Chemi Pure Elite
Tunze 9002
Custom skimmer cup
Stock filtration pumps
Stealth 150W heater
Vortech MP20
Custom acrylic filtration area cover
JBJ ATO
Reefkeeper Lite L3 w/ net module (recently had incident with this)

Here are some options:

LEDs will probably be your best option is heat is an issue.

Re: Bio Cube Owner's Thread

i am leaning towards the 5.6 nanotuners led kit. im not convinced they are comparable to mh but i think they will be better than PC lighting that i have. also, lesd upkeep cost and lesd operational cost in terms of Energy consumption. now i need to decide on which rows are what (i.e. cool white, royal blue, 50/50). guess ill post in the lighting forum for advice on that.

Man, I am thinking that's my only option too, since there are very few fixtures that fit the 20" LxW Biocube... especially since the 20" sunpod has been discontinued.:( Hey maybe we could have an install party in houston if I get the guts to buy the 5.6 as well. I get worried since my temps have been up to 82 during the day, AND ITS ONLY WINTER!!!!:crazy1:

Bio ball removal

Bio ball removal

Hey people,

I've read some comments on making the transfer to the media rack. Several have suggested that the ball removal should be gradual. A few balls at a time over a period of several days to eliminate nitrate spike. Any thoughts?

I have a lot of live rock in the tank as you can see from the pic and the tank has been up and running for right at 6 month/

Got my rock from tampabay saltwater

I caught 2 manits shrimp woot! 1 big one and 1 small baby one but i cant seem to find the 3rd one as i am hearing lots of tapping(could be a pistol shirmp but sounds like the tapping the other mantis's made)

Wow! Nice tank. I love your corals.

Go ahead and talk all the bio balls out at the same time. A nitrate spike should not be an issue.

How did you catch the first two?

dipped the rock i knew they were in in RO i guess im gonna have to do the same thing for the 3rd one. I did try a bottle trap but that didn't do anything

is the false bottom in chamber 1 gone on the new bc29g. i bought one today, and my first chamber goes all the way down to the glass bottom. i can put my heater on the bottom without knocking any false bottom out.

Thanks. Going to take the rest out today and set the media basket up. Going to run Purigen, carbon and floss. Looking at the fuge DYI but haven't made up my mind.

Im not to sure i got a newish(non HQI) and i still had a false floor in chamber one

[maybe i can look somewhere online. as of right now i think its removed. i need to find a pic of this false floor, because i dont think i have one. as i mentioned before i can reach all way to the bottom of my tank in chamber 1[/B]

ok i found a pic online, i guess the mech filter sat on top of this false floor. in the new bc29, the mech filter sits in the top of chamber 2 (horizontally) and chamber one if for the heater and protein skimmer

works really well except when they dont want to come out, in which case when you are trying to trade your friend for frags...your friend ends up just taking the rock the mantis is in:lolspin:

I dont quite understand could you take a pic? and post it
