Bio pellets or GFO and Carbon?

Hi all. I'm starting to plan out a new system. What's the latest on the bio pellet vs gfo and carbon debate? I've heard bio pellets and a good skimmer is the way to go but was hoping to get a few opinions from folks that are having success. I'm planning a SPS dominate system if that matters. Thanks!

There are a few local legends I set out to emulate by keeping it simple. It's going well so far. GFO, Carbon and Water changes. Good luck Jim.

Here is my take on bio pellets. I have tried them and yes they can be used to decreasing N & P however the risk of stripping the water is easily done. Learn your tank. If you have High N do some more water changes within reason. Do you have cyano or browning corals feed less or use some more gfo or change it out more frequently.

I'm using a big BP reactor, TLF 550 GFO reactor, and a large skimmer in conjunction with a refugium and getting crazy growth.

Not a bio pellet fan. But I have seen how many fish you like to put in a tank. Biggest thing to be careful of is letting your KH get to high. High Alk and carbon dosing will cause a bacterial crash. Experienced it myself. Took almost a month to start building nutrients again . lost some nice sps.

Although on your old 120 I did run about 100ml of TLF bio pellets and had very good results at about 8 dkh.

How is the reef raft opening coming along?

Thanks for the advice folks!
The shop is coming along great. Spending my weekends down there helping them put everything together. It's on track for the grand opening on the 29th. I'll post the details on here soon. It WILL be worth the drive to come down for the event. Check out the FB page for some pics
