How is my bio load on this tank
175g bowfront FOWLR
20g sump
minimal live rock
thin layer of sand

Tank inhabitants (after tank relocation)

Scribbled angel
Pakistan b/f
moorish idol
coral beauty draf angel
bicolor drawf angel
1/2 black drawf angel
cherb pygmy angel
"pair" maroom clowns (juvi)

I already have these fish and i am relocating tanks within the house....

How long has the tank been set up?
How much is minimal live rock?
Any filtration besides the live rock?
Plan on keeping corals?

Three pygmy angels will likely scuffle a little bit but the tank is big enough that they might work it out. Might not.

Ok let me explain here

Iam splitting the inhabitants of a 6x2 (aprox 215g)and a 7x2(aprox 210g) tank into 3 tanks with the 175 bow being tank#3

the inhabitants moved to the 175g bowfront were all in the 215g together with other fish that are not being transfered to the 175g, 1/2 the tank water and 100lbs(aprox) of live rock came directly from the same tank as the fish in the 175 now

the tank has been up for a while(month or so)

not planning on any corals in this tank

I would get a skimmer and you over doing it on water changes IMHO but if you can afford and don't mind it keep doin' what you're doin'.

If its a FOWLR and all the fish get along, which it looks like they should from the list, then everything should be fine with that much of a water change weekly. Fish can handle quite a little nitrate without much harm

I don't mean to divert the topic at all, but how long have you had the Moorish Idol???

If you have had him a while, can you offer some tips for keepig these guys alive? Everything I have ready says these guys can't be sustained in tank environments, and that it is near impossible to get them to eat anything in a tank. I have always thought these fish were gorgeous. What are you feeding it? I am very curious!

A big +1 from me on this too. I wanted to ask but didn't :D

aquaman sd you are not diverting the thread considering the moorish idol is part of this thread so here is the info you inquired about

Well i have had the moorish idol for about 9 months.

I got mine from divers den, it ate right out of the bag and it ate form #1, Form#2 flakes and pellets, prime reef flakes, frozen foods such as mysis, and angel/butterfly formula and chopped table shrimp

somebody started niping his fins and he stopped eating a few days ago, iam sure that with my tank move/swap today i got him away from the night time while iam asleep fin nipper (hopefully) and iam hoping he will start eating again soon but knowing what the rep of moorish idols are iam afraid iam gonna loose him

As for your bio-load. Your water params should "tell the tale"... as stated FOWLR tanks can take higher nitrate levels but if you have an invert clean-up crew they can be affected.

If you are DEPENDING on waterchanges to keep your nitrates down keep this in mind if you go on vacation.

I've always wanted a moorish idol... that is too cool! I hope he makes it for you.. I tried 3 different regal angels with no prevail so i figured i better give up and not try a moorish idol either. Good luck with him
