It may be the equipment... but if you found a solution, no use changing anything. I'm using a NextReef SMR1 (a revised MR1 that's designed for pellets) I'm using a Mag drive 3 (350gph) as a pump. Other than my SMR1 leaking a little (user error) the pellets have been boiling really with with no issues.
