So far so good, but I think I might go back to vodka. My tank seems to have done better from vodka. I've had my pellets since the beginning of August So I'd assume they're colonized.

my tank is doing fine with WM. Ive been taking monthly update photos, I just gotta upload them onto the good ol' photobucket.

I used to use instant ocean, and it worked great. If the Vertex pellets don't step it up, I'm going back.

Daniel tosh's FIRST! sketch was hilarious.

I've been watching this biopellet thing with an eagle eye. I wanted to see something happen in a tank, before jumping on the band wagon. Seaside in HB, has a display tank that runs SWC biopellets. Jayson at Seaside, tests weekly and has gotten good results. It took about 1 and a half months till the tank went to nearly 0 nitrates and phosphates. Go in and see what he has to say about them.

After seeing his success, I decided to use them too. My tank is a neglected 180 thats been running for about 6 years. After 3-4 days I had the bacteria bloom that is common. Skimmer skimmed very wet during days 3-6. Now the skimmer is skimming like crazy. About 10 days into it, the water is amazing clear. Green Hair Algae is starting to die off. I'm a believer.

I just this morning added the Vertex pellets to my tank. Premium Aquatics is running a special price on them so they were much lower cost then most of the others. At this point my GHA is getting thick so the cost will be more than worth it if they work.

using the vertex pellets for about 2 months now (600ml, 125 total water volume)

nitrates went from 2.5-5.0 to 0

glass stays cleaner

feeding 2x what i was 3 months ago

Warner Marine ecoBak
generally less expensive
no clumping
doesn't float
claims its less prone to creating bacterial blooms
requires less flow than other pellets.

I started out using the warner stuff. However it would at times clump together and allow for a film to build up on it. Also it would rise to the top of the reactor and stay there. I was working a booth next to to Brightwells at RAP. I talked about this with them. He gave me Brightwells new product Katalyst to try out at work.( one of my R&D systems at work that is around 400 gallons is what I use it on) It has been working well for me since. No clumps, no floating and no scum buildup on them as they are constantly tumbling in the two little fishes reactor I am using them in. I am very happy with the results and would recommend Katalyt to anyone wanting to try it out as it is relativley inexpensive.

Lurking... what reactor and pump are you using? I imagine you had a flow problem. My ecoBak rose to the top when i first turned the pump on. I turned it off and gave it one shake... It started boiling from then and has remained boiling ever since. No clumping either.

Here is the reactor I am using

I am using a maxijet 1200 for the flow. Do you think it is the equipment I am using? I have had no issue with the Brightwell product. I even was able to use less than the warner thus saving money( If I had purchased that is)
