Frecieved this question on a freind's message; for some reason I cn't get teh reply to send. SO here it is:
Question: Have you ever considered using a biopellet reactor:
Answer:
Yes I considered it but chose not to do it at this point. I still keep up with almost all the threads on them.
I was exicted about the biopellts when they came out but skeptical that all the bacterial activity and related chemistry would stay on the pellets as claimed.Turns out it doesn't based on years of folk's getting bacterial blooms, recission and other problems similar to those encountered with overdosing or sugar dosing . Pellets are polymers( carbohydrates) which go to sugars ,monomers including glucose which has been associated with coral mortality in at least one study.
Direct dosing of vodka an vinegar is easier to control since you can meausre the dose rather than guessing based on tinkering with slow tumble, quantity of pellets, etc. and more importantly from my perspective there are no sugars(monomers) in the degradtion process of either vinegar or vodka since both have already been degraded outside the tank to: ethanol via fermentation etc; and to acetic acid further down the bacterial cascade. Some fols like them but I am unaware of long term successes at this point.
