Biopellets for Nutrient Reduction?

I did for the first 6 months of my tank. I was happy. However I found I could achieve the same results without them so I stopped running them. (i have a lot less fish now) If I were to increase the bioload again I wouldn't hesitate to put them back on. I was using the WM pellets.

pellets knocked my 30 trates to nothing in 3 days.....i couldnt believe it...its been a year and still 0 trates, thats without topping off....down to .5-1" of pellets left in a tlf 150.....this is on my 75

I have been using them for quite awhile and am very happy with the results. Nitrates stay undetectable with heavy feeding.

I use a TLF150 reactor about 1/2-2/3 full of Brightwells Katalyst. I use a mj1200 throttled back just enough to keep the pellets bubbling.

^ No. A good skimmer skimmer is a must. I auto feed pellets and flake 4 times a day and I have a heavy bio load. SPS are growing well. Phos and Nitrates are undetectable. BRS pellets in a BRS dual reactor with ROX in the first chamber. I don't run GFO. HTH

thinking about using WM pellets on my nano, switching out gfo/chemipure to pellets.. we'll see how it turns out.

oh btw my nano is a full SPS. 30 g

i have used them with some bleaching
i decided to put sum in my fuge=maybe a hand full and they are working well

I have been using Warner Marine's EcoBak since the beginning of my current setup. 17 months now. I have a heavy bio load and feed 3-4 times a day. Have never had any nitrates, and my phos will creep up to 0.08 if I dont do a water change for 3 weeks. But if I do a weekly 5 gallon WC, it stays at 0.03. I run about 500ml on a 120 gallon total water vol. system.

I am a true believer! Just be aware that adding them to an existing system, you will want to add a 1/4 of the suggested amount, then run them for 3-4 weeks and slowly add more. A lot of people add them to an existing system. Put in the full amount and crank it up. First they see a bacterial bloom which causes cloudiness in the tank, and then the tank is suddenly stripped of nitrates and phosphates so quickly that corals have a bad reaction. So like anything else in this hobby, you have to acclimate these to your system slowly.

I have also been using ecobak pellets by warner marine for a little while. They are great. I use to get really bad algae out breaks if i did not do weekly water changes of 20%. Since I have been runniung ecobak I have not had any algae out breaks and have even gone as long as 3 weeks without water changes and still dont have a problem.

ive been running them for two months on a friends tank and i have yet to see any change in trates its a 150 g system and im running a bag and a half of the tlf pellets

A lot of it's effectiveness comes from how the pellets are tumbling. You want a nice slow tumble. The faster they are running, the bacteria dont really have a chance to colonize. Therefore less results.
