Biopellets tryouts

Well, this is the method to the madness. if you test the tank water before you put your hand in the tank and then put your hand in the tank and stir things up and then test you will get diffrent results. I put my hand in the tank and sturred things up before testing so I am gonna let things settle overnight before I test

well okay makes a bit of sense, but you should know that the new water and salt should be at that, so if you are trying to get it to that then you just check after, kinda cool to know but should only be done once if you use the same water and salt.

i was reading the parameters before i read the paragraph, and i was like well damn his parameters are perfect. haha.

I use instant ocean salt and have to bump my alk and mag to get them to where my tank parameters are, thats why I have to test my new water before I do a water change

aaaahhhhhhhh, okay cool. well i guess ill test my water when i do the ole switch a roo. havent checked it in a while. this will be the first water change in a while also. man i cant wait to see my corals grow in their new home with their new flow.

Well tested today and nitrates were @ 20ppm, I think it might be because of the turkey baster blasting that I did to the cyano, I really stirred thing up. I did another 5 gallon water change, I have 5 more gallons of saltwater to do one more water change 2maro. I might just stir things up again on Sunday and do a 20gal water change to see if that helps.

Well Im glad to tell you that the bio pellets do work, my nitrates are between 5pm and undetectable. the down side is that my skimmer went crazy with foam and I did not see that much of a skimmate in the cup, just over flowing foam daily. even though the nitrates went down i hate to report that I had an increase in hair algae, bryopsis, and cyano. I lost alot of high end zoas in the process, they were covered in cyano and I had to blast them with a turkey baster twice daily. well yesterday after finally loosing some more zoas I finally decided to take the biopellets off line. Today the skimmer went back to skimming like a monster and the cyano is down about 75 %.

Bio Pellets do work but I did not like the effects it had on my tank. If you want to try them out I would say go ahead as every tank gets different results. I just dont want to loose any more of my corals as I am already in the planning stages of my next project(stay tuned)

Erik

Thanks for the info. Glad things are turning back to normal too.

Give me a ring when you want to stop by for this phosban. You can check out the copperband that eats one out of twenty brine that comes its way... maybe it will listen to you and start paying attention to the rocks in the tank...
