Birds Nest Growing Away from the light?

What would cause this... I have this Birdsnest coral (I think) and it is growing well, but it is growing away from the light?

Is this normal, I'd think not. What am I doing wrong?

I attached 2 images from today and back in July for comparison.

sertiopora hystrix growth pattern is usually flow dependant according to Calfo's book of coral propagation.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. looks good.

might want to be careful with the caluprea racemosa algea you have growing there, that stuff can really take over a tank, esp if it goes sexual.

I had a monti do this and it was all because of flow. Otherwise looks good. I would second being careful of that caluprea and have a plan to keep it in check

Plan is to get a one spot foxface to eat it up. I try to pull out what I can but end up disturbing other things.

I honestly don't know where this PITA came from as it came out of Nowhere. I hadn't added anything new to my tank for like 4 months when it popped up. I do not understand how it is growing. I run Chaeto in my sump under 24/7 light. My Ultra Low Range Phosphate test show 0.00 (Hanna checker) .... I just don't get it.

I have a green birdsnest that grows laterally from my rock wall. The thing is a right pain since I have to keep fragging it so it doesn't shade other coral.

It's almost halfway across my 18" tank!

Looks like seriatipora caliendrum. nice

It certainly likes my tank; someone gave me a tiny frag 14 months ago and it's turned into a monster. It is gorgeous and always has amazing PE (it's downright fuzzy) but I have to frag big sections off of it and can't give it away fast enough. I bought a small wild SPS colony with an acro crab (bandit) recently and within a couple of days it had abandoned it and moved to the birdsnest - it crossed 18" of tank and then climbed about 18" up the rock wall to get to it, and seems quite happy there. :)
