Birdsnest Coral

This is my first SPS coral. Received on Tuesday from order online and placed near top of tank due to lighting of 4 31 watt T5s and 4 65 watt power compact. Started bleaching top down within hours. After more research moved down in tank on Thursday and does not appear to be bleaching any further and appears to like position but is not in as high of flow.

How long before I remove the bleached section of the coral? Just leave alone for a couple of weeks and see how it is doing?

Also purchased Stylophora and it is doing great.

90 gallon tank that has been running for over a year.

If tissue is gone in bleached area and no polyp extension, or if algae growing in those parts, then I would snip it off now. Most Birdsnest won't re grow over dead parts. If still has tissue and polyps, leave it alone for a while to see if it recovers.

Takes a few weeks for corals like that to settle in. Leave it alone and if in a few weeks looks happy, you can try and move it.

You should always start your sps corals on the bottom. leave them there for a couple of weeks & slowly move them up. if they lighten up move them back down. I have a green birdsnest that's been on the bottom of my tank for 2yrs-if I move it up it lightens up so I just keep it there. they grow like weeds once established. this is my 2nd colony from the original 3" frag-they get too big & I frag it & start over. also keep your alk stable.
