birth of 2 builds totaling 30k gallons

I'm guessing that whatever it is ..... it's much much cooler than algae and sulfur!!
(Apologies for the semi-hijacking before.)

Doggy doc. Was at construction site today. All the work is related to pipe trenches and house extentions for filter rooms. Tank is just sitting there. I think fresh water test for leeks and rinse is coming within a week or 2 I was saving all the pics and updates for that. Just rather get all the pics in one time. You guys saw the 3 foot deep trench out the back of tank. Now that's cemented in also. Other than that and I've been busy buying uv sterilizers. Rest of house is moving. Kitchen floor and beams came. Sort of slow and painful process. Once all paper is pulled from tank and unwrapped ie for fill test I will also take pics of rockwork the way it was meant to be seen.

Btw. With all the hoopla on totm and the facebook vargas write up, wholesalers and online retailers have been sending me coral and fisj for sale. Yesterday an island guy accidentally sent yalcin a wholesale list of fish thinking we were a retailer or wholesaler or something. Now I realize the prices were before shipping and box charges etc, I could not get over the mark up on these fish. Anyone for 9 dollar emperor angels. Lol!! Serious. I realized from island to wholesale to retail these things were getting marked up over 10x plus. Retailer still has issues with margins given online competition and costs but Omg. Just the retail mark up on popular fish must be 300 percent.

300% is minimum to stay afloat with fish IME. Plus the overhead for feeding them if you don't turn over quickly. And forget those margins with dry goods. You're lucky to get 5-10% markup to barely compete with big box stores and the web.

You might consider taking advantage of those prices, depending upon your current relationships. I bet you'll be buying more stuff on during your initial stocking than many of my LFS go through in a year.

Yeah I've been to the wholesalers in LA. Its hard to stomach retail store prices knowing how much the wholesalers sell them for. $30 female flame wrasses, $7 yellow tangs, $69 supermale lineatus wrasses. Etc. its crazy.

The mark up is crazy. I agree with having to keep up with online prices and everything. Excited to see updated pics!

No pictures here!?

No pictures here!?

It would be more awesome, if i could actually see the pictures :)

Tried with IE & FF....

Seriously The island of taha tahiti just has some of the sickest reefs I've ever been. Swam with several black tip reef sharks. Ran into thousands of butterfly's. Exquisites, ornates, threadfins by the millions. Porites. Montipora, sickest maxima clams ever!! Sick hycanthis table tops, cerialis and pocillapora coral. Damsiels, wrasses, triggers, all around us. Unphased. Come to you as you feed bread. I have thoughts on what I saw and lighting suggestions. 2 scuba dives and 3 snorkel trips so far. By far the best coral growth was in shallow type of lagoons within 5 foot of water.!! We keep our tanks too blue!!!! The clams definitely need bright white light. All maximas were buried in rock or porites. Will post pics from friend who is taking. On the other side of barrier reef in scuba dive the fish changed. More Achilles tangs and morish idols and powder browns. They were absent in shallow lagoons.

I also saw millions of awsome chromis some of which couldn't have been more than week old. Damsiels that I haven't seen collected yet. And some tips on some butterfly's that have proved difficult in tanks like Saddleback and equisites and oval ornates that all sawm in pairs. Wondering if the pair has anything to do with stress psyche in the tank ie the lack of it. Raccoons also. Never swimming alone. In pairs or groups.

It's amazing how little of what we do in our tanks is comparable to the real thing. Enjoy your time there, get off the forums! :)
