Carl,

Did you build that cabinet or purchase one and modify it to suit your needs?

That thing is awesome, Even the wife liked it. Nice work!!

I have a friend of the family that is a cabinet maker. I went to his shop this weekend in the hopes that he would help me nail together some wook and put some formica on it. Six hours later this is what we had.

I was so blown away when we were done. If anybody has seen what I was able to put together for my 15 they obviously know I am not woodworker!

I just wanted something that would make the high hood blend in a little better and this is what I got.

Just think how nice your frag can look in this tank!

I was completely thinking how this would benefit his business when I did this.
:D

. Sorry I missed you. This weekend was crazy and I will be out of town on business tues - thurs. Maybe I can swing by this weekend?

here is the update. I have the tank running with water and a little rock to do a temp test and the little hob keep the tank at ~82 with the lights off! Lights on and it climbs! I was planning to add a fan to cool the canopy buy that will not help a hot hob filter. I have some old small powerheads that i will try instead of the canister filter but I really wanted to just use a external for the ease of water top-off and the ability to have charcoal or a filter now and then.

Anyone else use a hob that did not raise a pico temp?

I have glass over the tank to keep the evap down. I was afraid that if i took off the glass and added a fan then i am going to have evap like crazy. I hate to go down that road.

When are you gonna put updated pics of your tank up?

Carl

Ahem... Ah... Hmm... [delurk] Very nice work so far, Carl. Pretty nice pic from the beach, too. I'm way inland here in Atlanta, and very jealous of that! Sure would like to see and hear how it is going in the last month, though.

All the best,
Chris

Cool carl. I dont think it looks like a frankenstein hood at all. It actually looks really nice. It certainly will look nice at the office! :)

A hob shouldn't add heat because most of the pump is external. Only the impeller and a little bit of the housing contacts the water.

Nice cabinet

I did not think so either but the house is always 78 in the day and 76 at night. The tank is running 82. To touch the motor on the hob it is hot to the touch. I guess it does not take much on 2.5 gallons of water.

Carl

i forgot about your glass cover... that has to be the culprit. why dont you do a test run without the cover for the equiveilent of a weekend, and see how much evap you real have... it may be less than you think.

as for updates on my 5.5g. ill have some pics soon. i just added some zoas i fraged off some liverock and they are just about settled in.

I will give it a try. I still think that I will have to swich out the filter. The light raises the temp a few degrees so the combo is dangerous.
