bit disappointed with my order from liveaquaria.com

This was actually my first time buying a fish online... So i've been searching for a tassle filefish for months... haven't been able to find any in local stores... so i finally found one on liveaquaria.com... It was priced at $44.99 for a small and $59.99 for a medium. So I placed an order on the medium one... paid $35 for shipping... my total came to about $96...

Received the fish today and this thing is TINY.... it was about the size of a quarter... now keep in mind that this is a fish that gets about a foot in size full grown.. i was expecting something maybe about 3 inches... about the size you'd expect a medium size tang to be in stores... this one was maybe about 1.5" from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail... Way smaller than i expected. Never would have bought it if I knew it was this small.. Called liveaquaria up and they refunded me the difference between a medium and small. Probably all they could have done at this point... still a bit unhappy though... would not have even purchased this fish if i knew it was this small... so in the end along with shipping I paid $76 for a quarter sized filefish... These normally go for about 50 bucks 3-4" at the LFS's in sac....

call them, the same thing happened to me when I ordered a medium wrasse and it came tiny, they'll make good by you.

I've been asking a LFS to get me one for one for about 6 months. I would have gone in and split shipping to get one. That's pretty small but when I got a small one before it grew pretty quick. I love those fish and the two I have had were completely reef safe.

Yeah great fish. I had one before as well. It was my girlfriend's favorite fish. I had it for a few months and it was really healthy. Never bothered any of my corals or anything. It died of starvation when I ran out of Rod's Food though. The LFS was sold out and I had to wait for them to order more RF. I switched over to feeding mysis(the smaller ones in a cube) in the meantime. It didn't seem to do too well on mysis. It liked more meatier food. After three days without Rod's Food, it looked emaciated and died... You can't skip feeding very many days with these...

Liveaquaria seems to have a nasty habit of making their stuff sound much better than it is. I've bought one coral from DD and I don't think I ever will again. It was not even close to the color in the pic and when I asked for a partial refund, they just said it was my fault that my tank conditions didn't bring out the coral's colors. Waiting another 6 months to find the specimen in person rather than buying online is much more worth it IMO

Support your LFS 100% of the time when buying live fish. I would never buy a fish online. Why would I wanna buy something thats more expensive, I have to pay for shipping, I have no idea if it's eating or not, and I have no idea what size or condition its actually in. You've learned your lesson now hopefully you won't buy again and you'll support your LFS. If you have a decent LFS they will always do you right. They need your business not these big online wholesalers.

+1 one for John the rest want to give you 10 cents on the dollar of what it worth! no names mentioned.

I normally would... but as i've mentioned, my name's been on the waiting list at the LFS for one since July... They just can't get any right now because the fish is out of season according to them.... online has been the only place i've been able to find them...

I was looking into buying a couple of fish from them but after reading your story and looking into others stories I don't think i'm going to be able to give them my business.

Sorry about not getting what you pay for but maybe if you call them, they'll be able to help you out and make it right.

when they sent me a fish that was way smaller than advertised they gave me a credit since it wasn't what was advertised (the fish later rug surfed though :(). They are pretty good in making things right, but I agree that I would rather go local. I got an Achilles from them that was loaded with parasites (and internal worms) and then succumbed after the guarantee was past. (could see the worms out of his vent) I got one from O street after and he's doing fine.

My brother and I ordered 9 fish in one shipment and 7 were DOA and the next two died during acclimation.

I have order a few time from regular LA before, maybe I got lucky and got some good specimen. But 1/3 of my fish are from their DD section. All came in healthy. I wouldn't hestitate to order from them plus 14 day is hard to beat.
