BK's 110 Gallon Build

I should also add not to place it like I did . I get a lot of splashing and salt on it. For now I took some clear cellophane and wrapped the tablet with it. I'll relocate mine when I redo the stand. I'm not really sure where that will be yet.

I'm looking at the tablets for sale, the cheapest that works may win :)
I have seen a tablet mounted in a picture frame that had been made to allow the wires and power cable in. It makes a nice clean look, I'm thinking about putting it on the wall next to tank.

Kindle fire for 50 bucks.

On sale right now,40 bucks for the 7" tablet. For that price Im prolly gonna get one for myself.

Anything with Chrome or Safari will work really. Before this I had an old iPhone 4 plugged in next to the tank so I can check parameters easily. I didn't attempt to change anything on it as the screen was way too small to be functional.

On the wall next to the tank is a great I think. Maybe I'll borrow that idea :)

Can't beat that. The glass on that tablet is worth more than that $40 bucks you will pay for the entire tablet.

Thats funny. Ive been using one to read my books for a couple years now they work pretty smoothly.

So I lost a couple of Frags to RTN and one to STN.

The two that Had RTN went in a matter of a few hours days apart. The Ultimate Highlighter went 1st only2 days after bein in my tank. Then it was the Palmer's Blue Millie 3 days later. These two came from T5 lighting to LED.

Today I noticed one of the arms on a Purple Pocilopora bleached. I fragged the other 3 arms off to see if that helps. This one came from LED to LED but different fixture types.

My parameters are very steady and all of them are within ideal ranges. The only thing that's a little higher than usual is my dkH. It's steady at 11.2.

The 2 gen 3 radios are set at 60% max on the px14 Coral Lab program. I have no other supplementation. They are also 17" off the water.

The only thing I can think of is that the dkH in my tank is higher so that's a shock after the transfer. Other than that I don't know what it could be. All the other coral and critters look happy.

BK, I'll get you more frags if you want them. What's your nitrate and phosphate?

Thanks nook. I'll wait it out to see if any of the others go south. No need in killing more of them.

I just tested both of those and the rest of everything with 2 separate test kits;

Temp 78.5
DkH 11.2
Ca 440
Mg 1350
P04 .08 need to lower that
N03 2.0 need that lower too

Usually the P04 and N03 are closer to zero. I might also do a water change to lower the alkalinity. It's making me nervous at the level it's at. Good thing my salt is mixing up at 5dkh.

My alkalinity is 7.5-8, my nitrate is 13-15 and phosphate.05. Your tank has been through a lot lately, maybe give it a while and I'll hook you up whenever you want.

Might be the alkalinity, phosphate and switch to LED combo but who knows... like you said the tank has been through a lot so time and patience are a must.

I appreciate your offer. I'll bug you for sure as soon as possible :)

Time for an update...

I had a couple of floods because I never made teeth for my overflow box and critters went down the overflow/water slide. It's the old problem of always taking care of things for others and then not wanting to do more of the same work for myself. Needles to say the floods damaged the wood on the cabinets.

It took 3 years but I finally made the acrylic teeth for the overflow box. Forgot to take a picture of it so I'll add it below later.

Here is what the stand looked like before I rebuilt it.

I didn't want to take the chance of having to rebuild it again so I found 1/2" PVC Plastic sheets to rebuild it. This was a lot more costly than plywood or MDF but didn't need to be painted and it can't be damaged by moisture or even a flood. The only part remaining from the old stand was the 2x4 frame below the tank. That was coated in epoxy paint before the panels were attached to cover it.

I went for the RedSea look but I'm thinking of adding some trim to the doors to make it less modern and more fitting with the trim around the entry. That may take some time.

The most exciting part about this rebuild was that I could learn from my mistakes in the past. I had 16"x8" openings on the top. With the tank being 31" tall this really made it hard to get in there if a frag fell or I needed to do anything. Now the openings are 22"x16" so I can and I have stuck my entire upper body in there now to clean things up. What a difference this makes!

New equipment includes a DC return pump and 2 Echotech Quiet Drive MP40's. This works nicely by I'm thinking of adding more flow.

The entire issue I have had with maintaining SPS turned out to be low salinity. I was running the tank at 30ppt vs. the needed 35ppt. What a freaking stupid rookie issue to have. Now that it's corrected I'm collecting SPS again slowly.

Strong work BK, looks really nice! Just curious, where did you find the PVC sheet, did you source it locally? Never know when this might come in handy for a project. ;)

Thanks!

I found the PVC sheet at Home Depot. It's open cell so it's softer but as long as it's not used for anything structural it will work just fine. It's used as siding or trim work on houses. Can be painted easily also.

If you need structural pvc sheet to build a sump or something like that I have a wholesale source. Just text me.

And the all important full tank shot. Don't mind the lack of SPS. I'm working on it :)

Beautiful tank, BK! Love those big Sargent Major Damsels.

Thanks nook! I never see the Sargent Majors in tanks. I’m a sucker for unusual but cheap fish. I fight for the underdog!

I like what you have done with your long tank so far. What’s the plan with the cube?

Thanks for the info BK, didn't really have anything planned, just good info to have. ;)

Tank looks great BTW!

Thanks again sir.

I understand completely. Now that I found this stuff I have come up with a 100 different projects I need to get done with it. Some may even be useful for the house lol.
