Black and White Clownfish or True Percula Clownfish

Hi Everyone,

I am starting a 29 gallon reef tank and am looking to purchase my first fish for quarantine as my new tank cycles. My LFS is selling the black and white ocellaris clownfish for $29.99 each and the true percula clowns for $16.99. I'm torn which kind I should purchase. Any recommendations?

Which ever one looks healthiest, readily eats and has been at the LFS for more than a couple of days.

They're both very hardy and wonderful fish. Just be sure your tank is completely cycled and there's no sign of amonia or nitrites.

Also be aware that both of these fish can be territorial and aggressive. Not overly so, but as a first fish that 29 will be theirs when anything else is introduced.

I prefer the black and white ocellaris to regular percs. Picasso percs are another story though.

I'm personally not a fan of designer fish. I think normal ocellaris clowns have a lot going for them.

Either one is fine but if you want the best of black and percula you can get Onyx percula. They have a lot more black than your normal percula. Just search onyx percula and you will see pix.
