I got a pair of black clowns from a friends tank...during the first couple of days they would swimm in mid tank area. But recently one of the 2 have been swimming near the top of aquarium near the surface. it stays there day and night and comes out during feeding but doesnt eat either. No visable sign of parasites, ich, breathing heavily etc. Whats wrong with my clown:(:(

Here is a couple pics of the clown i think that might be sick

Look like anything is wrong??!!

It's hard to say with these pics, but the first pic disturbs me. yhe white section of the first band has "bubbling" on it which reminds me of brook. However it's impossible to tell, can you get a bright shot? It should like whitish and kinda sloughed off

Could be the nitrates stressing out the fish, I know my nitrates are 20 and my anemone is bleached. Try doing 10% water changes every other day for a week and see how that goes.

Didn't say it was sick, I said the fish may be stressed.

Look at the title of the thread...

If there's no visual signs then you have to look to other possibilities. The tank has high nitrates which in turn could be stressing the fish out. He says the clown "might" be sick there isn't a definite. I did read the title of the thread.

My point is nitrates don't stress fish out, or make them sick. They are known to cause calcium deposition problems in _some_ corals but nitrates are harmless to fish - at least in any concentrations ever found in aquaria and ocean environments.

i'll try getting another picture in the next few days. I did do a 15-20% water change about 4 days ago and will do another 10% as joker suggested. Anything i could do to get him eating???

Try using Garlic Guard, it's for finicky eaters and is enhanced with vitamins. Or you could try formula one frozen food, it has garlic in it too and was designed for clownfish.

Hey everyone both clownfish are still alive but the one i was worried about isnt eating still...it would swim after the food really fast put it in its mouth and spit it back out...It also seems like its mouth is closing and opening pretty fast.. Here are some more pics but i just got a 6MP digital camera which isnt the best
