im thinkin about getting a black perc (actually one guy said there was no such thing as a black perc they were all oscellarus) but yeah any info is very much appreciated

There are heavily black Amphiprion perculas which are often called Onyx Perculas. These usually have orange faces and fins while the body is black. The ones that are all black including face and fins are Amphiprion ocellaris. A juvenile A. ocellaris will have an orange face though that will slowly fade as it matures

Examples

As you can see below, there are many clownfish with a black variant to them. There are also birth defects that can also make them misbarred, an incomplete stripe. Even to the extreme of having no stipes. In the opposite of that, sometimes the stripes widen and even merge.

Mind you, these variants can be really expensive. For what it's worth, I have a few contacts that are attempting to breed Midnight Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris [Black + No Striped Variant])

See at there is were there is confusion with the name, they use Percula in the common name, but use ocellaris (correctly) in the scientific/Latin name.

And yes "LilB0506" I am following you ;)

Travis,, are you sure that Misbarred Percula (Amphiprion percula [Broken Stripes Variant]) (6th picture) is a percula? Looks like an Occ to me.

Errors

The "Misbarred Percula" is actually a Black var. of A. ocellaris

The "Picasso Clownfish" is actually a var. of A. percula

You can trust me on this. :)

What is the midnight suppose to look like?

i suppose that midnight will be like the black variant of the ocelaris, but without stripes...

Is midnight a real species or a "hope to create" species? Would love to see a picture of it if anybody has any. :D
