black specks on clownfish

I've noticed some relatively small (pepper like) black specks on my pair of ocellaris clownfish. I know without a photo it's hard to say, but does anyone have any sort of idea based on that description what it might be?

Are they trying to host in something other than an anemone?

ie Sarco leather..

They could be getting irritation.

Looks like the sting marks my false percs would get when they went near the frogspawn. If it is just stings - nothing to worry about.

I have a frogspawn in the tank, but my clowns never go near it. I dunno? They seem healthy and happy so I guess I won't worry about it..

it is called melanism and is very common in clowns.

the cause is as above.
