Black Tahitan Moon Sand

Has anyone ever used it? I was thinking of placing it in my nano but was concerned it might not keep parameters in check.

Thoughts anyone????

it is inert so it wont do anything for your tank parameters. one warning-any amount of detritus or algae stands out on it. it is very difficult to keep it "clean", if thats even possible.

also, i would do a search on RC and see what you come up with. i used to be a moderator at a cichlid site and had a lot of people complain about it even when used in freshwater. just tough to make it look nice. i used it in a blue crayfish tank and it looked sweet. tank had zero algae and fake decor, which helped.

I have this in my 175 and it is very difficult to keep 'black'. Over time, it accumulates detritus and ends up black with grey or white particles. As mentioned above, it's difficult to keep 'clean' in appearance. That said, I still like the looks of it. Just don't expect that it will stay shiny black over time.

the stuff i have seen used was magnetic and the rest looked like sea glass. bad for sand sifters. I have heard of some black sands that aren't but still haven't seen one.

I have thought about mixing white and black. Give it a salt and pepper type look. Might help everything look clean.

No issues with maintaining parameters. CaribSea makes a Hawaiian Black version of their Arag-Alive that is sifter safe and burrower friendly. They also make a white/black mixture in the same line called Indo-Pacific Black.
