Black Tang

Nice Tang! :)

Which wrasse is that in the video on 0:03?
Is it "Macropharyngodon geoffroy"?

Im jealous! :) she is such a beauty. Is that wrasse hard to keep? I do only have some Cirrhilabrus in my tank. But I want one of these potters now.

Great looking tang, they are my favorite. I have had mine for three years now and got it at the size of a quarter. Roughly 5-6"s now and growing. What did you pay for yours? I noticed the prices went up around me.

Beautiful fish, the LFS by my house just got one in yesterday. I'm hoping to see him when I pick up my skimmer if it came in today.

They are a type of leopard wrasse, which are notoriously poor shippers and they NEED a sand bed to sleep in and take refuge. One thought as to why they are poor shippers is that they try to burrow while in transit, and damage their mouths in the process. They also many times don't want to take anythign but live food and can be difficult to wean to frozen.

I had my eye on one not too long ago that was at an excellent price, but never showed any interest in food. The LFS also had a crushed coral substrate as opposed to sand, further stressing the animal.

Thanks! it really is a beautiful fish. IMO they aren't any more difficult to keep than other Leopard wrasses.

That's awesome. Has yours developed the silverish streak under its dorsal fin? I see some online that have it and others that do not. I was curious what other peoples experiences have been? I paid $250 for the tang, it is about 3".

Beautiful fish, and Tank. You have some serious flow in there. Can you tell us about your setup?

WAR EAGLE!!!

War Eagle!

Thanks for the compliments. The tank is a 72g bowfront, in this video I was still adjusting the powerheads, so yea there is too much flow. I picked up a pair of the wp-25's and I have them on the lowest volume setting now, and its still a lot.

If you could just rotate your phone 90° that would we awesome!

But seriously nice looking fish, and from what I can see, nice everything else.

Wouldn't necessarily say its too much flow. The fish seem to enjoy it. As long as there's no sand flying around and the corals don't get ****ed, I say stick with it...

No silverfish/blue streak yet.i have seen smaller ones that do have it. From my understanding that streak is related to stress or emotions of the tang. I assume since mine grew up for 3 years with the same two fish and the environment has gone unmolested, that maybe that's why the streak hasn't developed. I recently removed the leapord wrasse, or I should say she removed herself from the tank. So now it's the black tang and a black occelaris clown. The leapord is alive and well though in my larger tank. That's were the black tang is heading very soon. I will keep you updated about the streak. I prefer not to see it, but I know it will show up one day. How did you score it for 250? That's what the hybrids go for around me.

Nice look black- the blue green streak will pop out as a adult when it 'flashes' or flares up, I have a 7inch long nose that has the epic streak-
