Did it eat mysis or anything that you saw? Newly squired tangs don't always associate nori sheets as food, a lot of the time you have to shred it up so they realize it's a food source

I remember when purple tangs were 90$ too. Typically price goes only one way and that up. Tank breeding is helping with some fish and Hurting prices when it comes to others. You can get wild caught maze angels for 950$ or so and captive bred ones for closer to 2k, same thing with the scribbleds they were around 180$ now they are closer to 400$

A skinny fish on arrival is not a good sign. I would probably try another vendor next time.

It picked at mini mysis and spirulina brine. I have had good success with QM in the past, since it was a rare fish through my Lfs I had to pick it up in the bag

The LFS is going to take care of you, hopefully? I would have taken him in the bag as well.

They are easy to tell apart at 2".... if its an obvious distinction... which is not always the case. Some that look like guaranteed blacks will become hybrids in a year or less... its not that easy. Especially when they are tiny (post larval) and they literally all look the same. at the 2" size you can start to see subtle differences.

Coraladdiction - It is most definitely a seasonal thing... the "drop" for tangs and butterflies this year was insane! Thats why we are seeing a lot more blacks, chevrons, etc coming into the trade. This will not last very long, so enjoy it while you can

I get the same warranty as they do from QM, only if it arrives dead do I not have to pay for it. They would never bring in a Black Tang except for me, the San Antonio market is not known for expensive fish and corals.

QM also has a 5% loss before they give credit. How long did the tang last?

I'm with you, a few others on here are sure as the sky is blue that they are 100% black long nose. I don't care either way, I didn't get one and if they are happy with whatever it is they got then all is well

The black tang is probably only the third fish in 23 years that did not make it, recently I also lost a baby regal angel which I have learned are very hard to keep alive. At two to four inches no problems, maybe black tangs are the same

small blacks need to eat, and contrary to popular feelings, they are not hardy. No tiny tang is hardy. Some are hardier than others, but all tiny fish require special care, and are sensitive no matter how you break it down.

Baby regals are the same (again, all baby fish). Once they start to eat (which can take a while) they need to continue to eat ALL day ! Sorry to hear about the regal and black. 2 of my favs.

I too lost 2 baby Regals (under 1") because i just wasn't around enough to feed them like they needed to be. New arrivals I feed everytime I think about it or walk past the tank, which ends up being 15-20 times a day or more

Any updates on the other small Black Tangs on the market? Or has anyone else bought one of these?
