Seems like more and more custom tank manufacturers are using black silicone on their tanks. Which to do like best, black or clear?

Comments and pics welcome. :)

I'm glad you asked, I've been a bit confused on the subject of black silicone. Initially i thought it was aesthetics, that folks liked the look of it. I do too. But I wondered if one can be more assured that the seams are done well leakage-wise, if they are black? Or is that just me and a bubble head idea.

If it's done right, a tank with black silicone looks much better than clear. I'm not sure why, but I just find it more appealing.

I like both equally I think. Like i say I'm unclear on whether black siliconed joints are also a quality assurance thing seam-wise or not. If it were a seam thing though, then I would vote for black.
If there are no differene in the two other then looks, then i think i lean towards clear silicone if I were to get a tank. An RC member said, can't remember who it was, it was regarding rimless, not silicone, and anyway the person posted that the low lead; rimless aquarium was more like a piece of the sea in space in your living room. That's why I tend to like the look of the clear silicone a bit more.
Just for me, the black is more hi tech looking, and the clear is more ethereal looking.

Have there been any studies on the strenth and longevity of either silicone type? Or is it purely aesthetics....?

Looks like Black is winning by a landslide.... interesting. :)

I like clear. in a perfect world I wouldnt know there was any glass at all. black is just 1 more thing to attract your attention.

i feel the black looks cleaner long term. you can see algae growing on the clear stuff and its kinda ugly after a while and you cant really get it off without messing it up. It depends on how the seams are done, too.
