black worms parasite intro

In the past i have fed an abundant amount of black worms as diet to my fish. They loved the worms, as their colors and activity increased. I stopped feeding the worms for several months.

Then lately a local vendor had a sale on blackworms which enticed me to feed them worms again. A week later my fish developed ick. I did not introduce any new fish into my tank for well over 3 years now. Can it be that the worms actually was counter productive and decreased my fishes immune system making them vulnerable to ick? Can these worms carry over diseases? thoughts?

I feed live blackworms myself, and I can assure you no diseases are carried over as blackworms are freshwater. If anything, the high protein in blackworms should give your fishes immune systems a boost. The only thing with live blackworms is not to feed any that are dying/spoiled, as those might pollute your water.

This. What else was introduced to the tank?

Nothing was introduced except the worms. Fish are recovering but I find it odd that the introduction of black worms caused a spike in ick.
