Blackcap Basslet

I was wondering how hardy this fish is. My situation is that I have a new 75 ghallon reef with 80 lbs Marshall Island (more porous, I hear) LR. The LR was cured very well and there is about 30 pounds of live sand. The tank has been going about 5 days with 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.

algae has started and i am thinking of ordering some algae control critters. I can pick up a blackcap basslet (no shipping charges) at the same time. The only fishin my tank now is a 3 inch foxface rabbitfish.

Inb case I do get some ammonia, do you think the basslet will be OK? The store I got the LR from has verey good rep and claimed I probably would not have significant cycling issues. Thanks.

Hey JC,

The Blackcap is just like the Royal Gramma in terms of hardyness. It should do just fine. Welcome to the world of salt and color.

I just added a blackcap last week. He survived a pretty severe harassment from a six-line wrasse which has since been removed. The basslet bounced back quickly.

If your rock was cured and you haven't seen any spikes yet, you should be good to go.
