how do you feel when you read a post anywhere claiming " i bought a fish from "blank" store and now multiple fish died. Or "they gave my fish ick or velvet....."

and as per usual there are few other details given.

who do you feel is at fault? with no more information.
what if its a store you shop at and have had no issues?

as we have seen in many illness threads if the person posting can respond all kinds of questions pop up, because the whole picture is never told in original post.

water parameters
did you QT
tank size
type of fish involved
tank mates that died (possible fighting)
and the list goes on.

These days blame is being thrown around all the time, many times to avoid taking responsibility, for not doing something.

Sometimes it is a water quality or fish fighting issue, but IME whenever someone drops a new fish straight into their DT and all the fish start dying it's usually velvet (or some other disease.) And I blame that squarely on the hobbyist buying the fish for not quarantining. The supply chain is polluted with disease right now, and everybody knows this. When you buy online nowadays, chances are the fish is coming direct from a wholesaler. They don't QT their fish - everything is turn and burn with them. LFS are struggling due to online competition, so they can't afford to QT the fish. So realistically you have two viable options:

1. Quarantine everything before it goes into your DT.

2. Use some sort of disease management tool (e.g. UV, diatom filter, Oxydator, etc.) in your DT and take your chances with that.
