Blasto and new lighting

I moved my small colony up in the reef and left it there for about a week. From Day 1 to Day 7 it retreated further and further into its skeleton. I have since moved it to where it came from. How long should I give a coral to acclimate to a new lighting intensity before deciding that it just wont work/doesnt need it?

I do not know the exact timeframe.
but I have a personal experience with b. wellsi, I have a large colony in my RSM, I keep it on the sand bed.
I had it in there for awhile and then changed my lights to brand new.
It recessed and lost almost all color and that was o about 7-8 months ago when I changed the lights.
Just finally now they are back and better then ever.
I do not ahve any pictures from when they were bleached or recessed, sorry.
And the bleaching did not happen over night it took some time.

imo the lower in the tank the better b.wellsi does not like strong lighting imo i have mine shaded on the sandbed in a 30 tall tank and it has never done better.

So I put the coral back where it came from. It has been there for about 4 days now and it is still receding! The skeleton is poking thru all over the place. Did I kill this thing?

honestly, it will take time, Mine took the better part of a yr to go through the full cycle, I am already getting new lights again, I am so afraid that the new lights will make it go through this cycle again!

just let it be in a shaded are with little flow it should come around mine looked like crap when i had it out in the light after being in the shade for 3 months it looks crazy now and even got some new babbies out of it.

Agree Blastos prefer lower light and a gentle flow....if you can also feed them sometimes they'll great appreciate it.

Prolly your Blasto has got a very strong stress by moving under a stronger light....let us know if it will heal
good luck

In moderate light, mine stretched so close to its skeleton that it started to tear... Back in very low light (bottom corner of the tank where to LumenBrights don't reach and under the leaves of a big macro) it gets VERY fluffy and the colors are ten times better.

I started with some shards of a frag, really messy and tiny. Only one survived but wasn't happy at the bottom of our 75G centered under a 150 halide. I moved it to a front corner in the sand bed last week shaded by some plate coral and the improvement is dramatic. It has very low light requirements.

I have mine in the front corner too! I think when I get my new lights I will move them to the back corner under one of my Power Heads.
