Bleach question

I have a small amount of live rock that's been sitting in saltwater for a while I decided its time to bleach it can I add bleach right to the saltwater or does it need to be freshwater

I used tap water for the bleach. would [really, really really] recommend outside. Used 1G bleach to 10G bleach per Cully's rock re-incarnation thread.

thats exactly how i normally do it i was just curious if it makes a difference if its saltwater as its already in it

Tough to say. Seawater is a pretty saturated solution, but H2CLO4 is already dissolved in water. Give it a shot?

I actually just swapped the water out. I kind of planned on doing that I was just wondering if it made a difference

I think that's a safer course.

Perhaps dilution in the salt water would have been be enough to make bleach ok to use there but maybe not. The ammonia/bleach mix thing is a little scary; in some cases according to the link I posted; the chloramine gas is bad but even worse is the potential for explosive hydrazine to form( that's jet fuel btw.).
Then I wouldn't know what compounds the bleach mix would create in tank water and how much bad stuff might stick around on the rock.

chlorine or chloramine gas = not good

I remember someone cleaning out the muriatic acid piping, and then proceeding to clean the sodium hypochlorite piping, mixing the two in a giant concrete tank. Yeah... definitely not something I would recommend.
