bleached anemone?

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a long tentacle anemone about two hours ago. The white color is what attracted me so I bought it. As I was reading it about it, people said that white means it is bleaching. Can someone please tell me if this anemone is bleaching? and should I bring it back to the LFS? Thanks

That nem is very bleached. How old is your tank.? What lighting are you using? what are your tank parameters? Bleached nems can be brought back but it takes a lot of work (feeding) and perfect water quality to do so. Is this your first anemone?

bjledbetter,

I just purchased it from the LFS about two hours ago, it looked the same as in the LFS. It actually didn't bury it foot. I dug the sand and place it in there. You think I should return it to the LFS? all my other corals are doing fine.

Tank is about a year old
This is the second anemone, my other is doing fine.
LED Light
Ammonia= 0
nitrate= 0-5
calcium= about 420
SG= 1.024

I don't think it is my water because it looked exactly the same when I bought it.

Besides being bleached it looks good. Tank age is good, what type of leds are you using some are not strong enough for certain nems? Other parms look good. What other type of nem do you have? It may create a problem with chemical warfare between the two. What size tank are they in? Depending on the other type of nem you have already and tank size if your willing to take the time to feed it daily till it gets its zooxanthile back i'd give it a go and see if you can bring it back, but thats just me. When fully health it should be a brownish pink color. Just be ready to pull it out if something happens and it dies, you dont want to lose your other stuff.. And as a future reference its generaly recommended not to buy white anemones sense there are no natural white ones they are usually bleached white to make them more attractive.

I would try and nurse it back to health. Your tank and parameters all look good and it should be fine as long as you feed it daily. Its chance of survival is better with you than at the store.

If it live, It will not be white but brown. If it is the white color that you like, it will not be white if it regain it's health

Thanks everyone for the help. Just trying to update you guys. I decided to return it to the LFS and trade for a bubble tip anenome. I am just too new to the world of reef and anenome that I am not confident in trying to recover it. I also told the LFS what happened and hopefully they will try to recover it.
