bleached area on montipora frag

I purchased this frag approximately 2 weeks ago and placed it in the shade on the bottom of my tank to begin acclimation. I believe that my lawnmower blenny swished sand on the frag and it remained there for a few days, as I was out of town. Can being covered with sand cause fading or is this some other process going on. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, we're running 2 250w metal halides over a 75g tank.

I can't really tell what's going on, or much of anything at all from that photo but yes, sand on a frag can fade it out or cause other harm. Better picture would help if you had a more specific question.

Hardy SPS, should recover the faded area with good water and lighting.

Thanks for the info, M007, I'm going to keep it low, but move out into the light and keep my fingers crossed.
