Bloated desjardini tang

Wondering if anyone has experienced a bloated tang and can help get mine better. Had my desjardini tang for about 5 yrs now and always been a healthy fish. Over the last four or five days I have noticed that the belly has been very bloated, thought at first it was just cause it was a pig and ate a lot but now I noticed that its eyes are bulging too and it is very inactive. Used to swim around a lot but just sits in one area for a while now before moving to another area to sit. The belly is very over bloated.

Any help would be appreciated. Hoping this is the right forum to put this topic.

Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Looks like popeye and dropsy. Hospital tank and some Erythromycin or kanamycin should do the trick. Other people might say to leave it alone if it's just popeye, but since you have a combo I'd treat it ASAP. Both are caused by an internal bacterial infection. What's your water quality like?

My, tang did that, found out it was caused by him getting to much meat and not enough greens. The bloat went away shortly after I started feeding more algae based foods.

Overall my water quality is pretty good. Phosphates are a little high. I am going to do a large water change and then try to catch him to medicate. Thanks for the suggestion on medication.

There are two schools of thought. As Laurie said, it's usually environmental and will probably go away if you change some conditions but there's a fine line between it just being a nuisance and it being deadly. It's your call :)

I think you are right to treat. I did not notice the pop eye. Treatment could not hurt in this case. But i do know from past experience with bloat, that many tangs are pigs and do get way to much meat in their diets. Good luck with him.
