blond naso tang

i really like the look of this tang. but i know they say they are aggressive with other tangs, but really isnt that what they say about all tangs. I would like to know if i could put one in a 265 (7 foot tank) with a hippo and 5 yellow tangs.

tank isnt up yet,

currently i have in a 57 rimeless
2 clowns
cooperband butterfly
2 fairy wrasses
kole tang
hippo tang
yellow tang
coral beauty angelfish
pink spot watchman goby
2 lyetail anthies

i know a lot of fish just got some for free and about to set up a 265 with 3 other tanks all in one with a 200 gallon sump
 
IMO, it's borderline. I think the Naso and Hippo needs a 8ft tank, as they can get too be very big. IMO, definitely not with 5 yellow tangs.
 
i want a big fish that swims alot. was thinking queen angel. i know they arent reef safe,, but figured once i get tank packed with corals there will be too many for the queen to really hurt just one. do you know of another big colorful fish
 
but honestly i dont think the naso tang will do bad in a 265 gallon 7 foot tank but will do grerat in a 265 8 foot tank. dont really think in this hobbby 1 foot matters that much,
 
Yes I currently have a baby hippo. Got him 12 months ago the size of a quarter he is now 2 and half inches. So yes I will have a hippo in new tank. The kole is going to go in one of my 80 gallon frag tanks probably keep one wrasse in 57 gallon with I will turn into Marco algae tank

I have 2 in my 8' 240 gallon tank. Also a Powder Blue, and Atlantic blue tang, and a tiny yellow tang that belongs to someone else. They are doing fine. But still growing. As far as aggressive,
I think nasos are the least aggressive of all tangs.


Also, I will say my experience is that getting a "good" Naso is difficult. I have had some that live for a while, even eat, then suddenly die for no good reason. I suspect cyanide. However, if you get a good one, they are a very cool fish, get more beautiful as they grow, and are mild mannered (for tangs). Always been one of my favorite fishes.

Thanks. This is what I like to see. People who actually kept this fish successfully. No offense to the others but I don't need someone who read an article giving me advice. I wouldn't hire a cook at my pizzeria who just read a book how to cook

You will notice, though, that due to the size of some of my fish, the emps and the nasos in particular, that I really don't have many fish for the size of my tank. I think that is key to be lightly stocked when you have larger fish. They do need space.

So what you posted for was to get someone to agree with what you are doing. Screw the expert who write articles advising best practices for successful reef keeping. Yup you know better based on getting the advice you are soliciting.

Would you hire a cook who wrote a book based on his (her) successful pizzeria business and what the proportion of small to large purchases will be the norm.
 
My dream fish is a Achilles tang, but they are also aggressive. At the end of the day I don't want issues in my tank so for me it's gonna be nothing but a dream. Why can't we all just get along!?

Asking for people who actually have the fish. Now if an expert tells me not to get one I will listen. But are you an expert. Do you have a 265 gallon tAnk. I asked the question to get real advice from people who had the fish. Not people who read about it online. Plus it's not like I am putting this in a 55 gallon tank

Lol that's funny. All I was saying is I want advice form people who actually had the fish. Plus really a 220 gallon tank that's 8 feet is better than my 265 gallon 7 foot tank. Like 12 inches is really going to ruin this fishes life.

I don't see a prob here. Though keep in mind that tangs like a lot of flow and I think that helps expand the tank some. High flow, as in SPS kind of flow.

So you think the stocking list for 265 is ok. With adding a naso tang. I will have 2 mp60 so yes lots of flow

The size of the fish has only a small amount of the determination of the size of the tank to best house them. My Two Barred Rabbitfish can grow to 11 inches or more but is more than happy in my 180 because his swimming pattern is very confined and deliberate. He spends most of his time in his special spot among the rock and mostly only gets out at feeding time.

Kole tangs tend to swim from one end to the other and graze on every rock as they pass by. My Caribbean Blue likes to dart from one end to the other, quickly. Different fish different behavior same species.

I posted and article from someone who understands the behavior of the different tangs, (yes, probably and expert and I would bet has kept tangs). You will ALWAYS find someone to confirm what you want to do, but that does not make it right. I did not offer my advice, but referred you to an article from someone who knows of what they are writing.

It ain't just the size but also the behavior of the fish that makes the difference. Do you want advice or confirmation?
 
I am not new to this hobby. I understand different fish have different requirements. Tank length is just one if the requirement. All I am asking is how can a 84 inch tank not be ok but a 96 is. I was really asking if the naso tang would be too aggressive to live with my hippo and 5 yellows. Should I get another fish instead. I was thinking Belous Angels. But wasn't sure if they would be ok with the tangs
