Please do not get me wrong. I have a great deal of respect for you and your husbandry skills. I would not even attempt to keep a moorish idol at this stage of my reef education. Nor am I questioning your experience, because you have significantly more than I do. You have a very nice collection of fish and they sure look to be happy.

My point was, IMO, that the OP is seeking an opinion that matches his. He received it, so I responded accordingly. I can see how this may be considered rude, but it was not my intent.

So, has an "expert" kept Naso tangs in various sized tanks over many years? has he done a scientific study and definitively found out which particular size and shape tank the fish thrives or doesn't thrive? I don't believe anyone has. Most people with lots of experience with a Naso keep them for short periods of time in their system, then sell them. Not many have long term experience with them.

I did not claim to be an expert. I did relay my current experience. And I relayed that I have kept fish for 42 years. You can listen to my experience, or you can dismiss it out of hand and trust your "expert", but I would guess that I have probably have at least as much experience as the expert has. I have probably been keeping fish for longer than most people on this board have been alive. Quit flaming the op and quit dismissing what I have to say. It is not respectful. You don't need to agree. Tell me in your experience why what I say is wrong.

but how do you know i am looking for an opinion to just match what i am looking for. i asked because i cared enough to see if a naso would be a good fit with the fish i already have

now i am not 100 percent sure if i am getting a naso, i just like to bounce ideas off people who know more than me and see what comes back. thats all i was really asking, i didnt want people to speak with less experience than me

but honestly i dont think the naso tang will do bad in a 265 gallon 7 foot tank but will do grerat in a 265 8 foot tank. dont really think in this hobbby 1 foot matters that much,

Lol that's funny. All I was saying is I want advice form people who actually had the fish. Plus really a 220 gallon tank that's 8 feet is better than my 265 gallon 7 foot tank. Like 12 inches is really going to ruin this fishes life.

I am not new to this hobby. I understand different fish have different requirements. Tank length is just one if the requirement. All I am asking is how can a 84 inch tank not be ok but a 96 is. I was really asking if the naso tang would be too aggressive to live with my hippo and 5 yellows. Should I get another fish instead. I was thinking Belous Angels. But wasn't sure if they would be ok with the tangs

Why? one: I can't keep them alive. :sad2: I have tried 3 and they are fine for a while then just die. One of the respondents here said it took them a few before s/he got one that worked. I don't want to harm any more. Two, I plan to add more rock for SPS, so the actual swim space would be further restricted for a Naso. I am more a coral guy than a fish guy, so will stock accordingly.

i was thinking of making like 3 tall rock formations in my tank, basically having 3 mountains in my tank. i asked the question before, got a few different answers. but do you thknk 5 yellow tangs introuduced at the same tme will work in a 265 witch a hippo (maybe a kole thinking about taking him out) and Maybe a blonde naso.

if it will work or wont can you explain why or what i might have to do make my chances better. i know each fish and tank are different

The build was fun. My wife is aware of everything that goes into the tank. She really likes the aquarium, so long as I do the work. lol. The build had its ups and downs but was well worth it.

If you can bring it in at 6k, I bow down to you. But we both know it is going to cost $20 more [emoji1]. 680 is a good size. What are the dimesions? My 400 is the final upgrade. I do not have the space for anything larger and this size ia perfect for my man cave.

my wife loves the tank too, she knows it makes me happy, so she is ok with it and we both know its not costing me 6,000. its one of those lies we both know arent true, but she doesn't push the subject. but i wont tell her i am spending 2200 alone on just power-heads. funny thing is i have to lie to my mom too, she gets mad when i spend money. ps i am 40

i was going to go bigger and have a custom tank built, but i cheap out . i am getting the marineland 265 with oak stand brand new for 2000. the custom ones i was getting quotes of 2 to 3 times that. plus i only have 8 feet to work with in the space, didnt think 12 inches was worth 2-4 thousand, but i know how crazy you Canadians get over 12 inches lol

havent had a big tank in over 14 years, so new to the big fish. last time my uncle and me had a 600 gallon tank in Florida, but my uncle had a lot of money and this was before the internet so we normally put any fish we want into it, most died within year anyway. boy has the knowledge and information in this hobby grew from then

I spent about double what you are, just for the tank. But I also knew this was the final upgrade and wanted a very specific design. My kids have left the nest and I am 3 years from retirement. My other main hobby is woodworking. I have set that aside until I retire because of the time involved. I still have some wood(cherry, maple, and others) just waiting for me to craft them. Reefing is a hobby I grew in to the past 10 yrs and my wife has been fully supportive. This is one of the things that we share.

that is really nice, i have a spot on the other wall, if this all goes well i will do the monster build in that wall. so what fish do you have in your 475, is it a reef tank
