Blonde Naso Tang not eating... Help!

I just got a medium size blonde naso tang. It looks healthy and swims around; however, it's not eating. I've tried frozen brine and mysis, flakes, and nori but to no success. Anybody have suggestions??

Do you dose with garlic? Or can you get or hatch some live brine? I had 2 Nash's that wouldn't eat no matter what I gave them. How long was the fish at where you got him from? Was he eating there?

I don't dose with garlic. I'm not sure about the live brine. I'll have to ask around. I'm not sure if he was eating at the place I got him. I ordered it from a reputable website.

Spirulina flake worked for ao naso tang I had years ago. It would not eat anything for a week!!! Gave the spiulina and hit it immediately.

Yeah, it may take some time before he starts eating, after all, you did mention that you just got him. It's a good sign though that he is behaving normally ( swimming around ). If he was stressed by other fish or the enviornment he might not be interested in swimming around and checking out his new surroundings for food.

Just keep trying the different types of food you have been offering and be patient.

If he was eating at the store, try the food they were giving him.

Mine eats ONLY pellets and nori. I've had him almost 6 years now. He doesn't even look at frozen clam, squid, or shrimp.

they do sometimes take awhile to acclimate to a new tank...can try putting a piece of nori to a piece of lr with a rubber band...live black worms might work...I would avoid the garlic...

IME blondes tend to take more time to acclimate than your regular ones. The one I currently own wouldn't eat for the first 3-4 days, and would only nibble on pellets for about a month and never looked fat (had a pinched stomach too). However, 2-3 months later started eating everything I put in the tank, and about a year later and couple inches longer not including its streamers, it's one of the pigs of my tank. These fish truly take a while to FULLY acclimate to aquarium settings.

Am I missing something you buy an algae eater and want it to eat meat? Place some algae sheets on a clip and go buy some macro algae for him to eat. And I don't mean this as a harpoon, I see this kind of post all the time. People buy tangs to control algae in a tank, feeding anything else is just ruining them. It is like inviting a date who you know is a supporter of PITA and taking them to a steak house? I am sure in time it will eat mysis and spiralina brine like a pig.

you could also try boiled broc or zucchini...but they do need meaty pieces of shrimp, mysis etc to be healthy...

Almost every tang I've ever kept ( lots) ate mysis, brine gut loaded with spirulina, or bits of raw shrimp as a first food. Tangs eat a lot of pods and other little critters while their grazing algae. I really think they should be labeled ''omnivores" rather than "herbivores". Of course, plenty of veggies should always be provided. I'd take the PITA date to a good Italian Restaurant and order veal.

agree with the ominvore statement...
just curious...is the date a "pita" meaning a "pain in the tush" if so, why bother taking her out at all? unless of course...lol...
or a "peta" meaning she is affiliated with the group '"people for the ethical treatment of animals."
or is she both a "pita" and a "peta"????

Missed that one. I did mean PETA; "People Eating Tasty Animals".

Well you got me it is obvious I don't know anything about PETA! I can't even spell it?

The latest updates.... It's still not eating; however, it is making atttempts to take in the food and spit it out. I used brine shrimp with spirulina. I also placed nori on a clip. Hopefully it will follow my scopas tang and eat like pig.

Try rubber banding some nori to a rock. It should start to graze once it get comfortable. Mine eats all colors or nori, romain lettuce, brine, mysis, pellets, and flake. But I have heard of pickier ones. Try the rock and nori, that's how I get my tangs to start eating if there picky. Just my $.02
