Blue Assessor Lifespan

Just picking up a blue assessor today and could not seem to find info on lifespan for them. Just looking to see what some of you have experienced with this fish. I'm really excited for the addition as it should be my last fish for a while. Thanks.

They are related to the Plesiopidae which contain some fish that can get quite old. The Calloplesiops for example can reach 20 years with ease.
So I would expect Assessors not to be particularly short lived.

I' planning to get a group of at least 3 Yellow Assessors at some point.

Yeah I didn't think of that. I was thinking of the life span of grammas and thinking along those lines. I remember reading that they are closely related to comets and that never clicked when thinking of lifespan until you mentioned that.

He is taking well to the tank.

my favourite fish!!! I worked at a store where I put a yellow and Blue in the show tank back in 2007 and both are still there! both were wild caught and pretty big when they came in

How is the fish doing? I am trying to find one and they are pretty hard to find. Possible to get for sure but not too common it seems? What do or did you feed yours, he is going in to a peaceful tank already. Anything special about it I should know or concerns. Think I should quarantine it or are they relatively disease resistant fish? How big did yours get?

Also the Randalls assessor looks much different from the macneills assessor right?

The Assessor is doing great in my tank. He found a space in the live rock that he beds down in at night but for the most part he is out in the open whenever the lights are on which I am real happy about as being able to see him was one of my big questions before buying him. He has been very healthy. He had a slight tail nip from my clown when initially introduced but haven't seen any issues since. He was my last fish addition to the tank so I am hoping that I can keep these guys as healthy as they are for quite a while to come.

Thanks...I think my biggest problem is finding them to buy! There stupid hard to find. The randalls is easy but the macneills or true blue assessors are much harder...any places where you guys know to get them from a little easier? O and please don't say LA lol.

Yeah I have a LFS that is very good about ordering things in and he found one. It took about 2 weeks. The one I got has not shown any signs of diseases or parasites but I can't speak for the species as a whole. I would still quarantine if possible. Feeding is not an issue. He readily took mysis from day one.

You wouldnt happen to know if your LFS will ship them to NC my way do you? Or the name of the store?

I don't think he ships any fish sorry to say. But I would check around. They do tend to pop up here and there. Mine hasn't been swimming upside down but he has been swimming with his belly toward the back wall of the tank.

Thanks, yeah I spoke with one lfs around the local area and they said that basically they can order them if THERE supplier has them available. I'll get on eventually.
