Hello everyone this is my fisrt post on here.

I just finished reading Reef Secrets

I saw a few fish in there I never seen before in this hobby.

I did note that one fish the author talks about is a blue assessor
he stated it is a very hardy and good reef fish but rarely imported

well I looked on the internet and found them at live aquaria.

has anyone had one before and what is the fish like

thanks is advance

i've got 1 in my 29. he's in there with a lime stripped goby, high fin goby and his candy stripped pistol shrimp, neon goby, an anemone shrimp, pom pom crab and 5 sexy shrimp...

he is the largest fish in the tank yet is very passive with everything else. he loves to hover under the live rock ledges but is out swimming a large amount of time, he explores all caves..

he'll eat anything i drop in the tank, mysis, formula one, squid and blood worms..

he's a great fish and beautiful also!

thanks

I think I will get on once I set up my tank.

they are very pretty

do you have a pic of yours?

I also have one and he is my favorite fish in the tank. He is also the most peacful, my clowns and pygmy angel are the terrorizers of my tank. They grow pretty quickly as well. Mine doubled in size in less than a year.

They are a very beautiful fish

sorry no pics because i don't have a camera at the moment..

but mine is a much darker blue, kind of a midnight blue, almost black....

hmmm thats interesting I went to ORA and they are dark like the book also

but then I went to another online place that has them jeffs exotic fish

they where light blue also

maybe they are that color when they are young or maybe there color because collected in a different location.

thanks for the info you guys

we need some pics, did you guys buy yours on LA? Which would you prefer the blue or the yellow assesor?

is the blue really blue or dark blue almost purple, black?

I've never seen a blue as light as the one in the picture. They've always been a deep, dark blue. I'm wondering if that pic isn't overexposed.
Really nice fish. The yellows are a little more aggressive, but still pretty passive overall.

Wolverine, you know of anywhere locally(in MI) I could get one?

never seen them offered around here

I don't know of any place that currently has any. I've talked to some wholesalers, and they tend to come in in spurts. They'll be really easy to get for a few months, and then they won't see any for 5 or 6 months. We might be in one of those lulls.

I tried to buy one from Pet Connection several months ago, but it disappeared. I mean that literally. The guy put the specimen cup in the tank, and suddenly the fish wasn't in there anymore. We looked in the sump, just in case it had happened to make it through the strainer. We searched the floor, even though neither of us saw it jump. The only things we could think of is that it either jumped behind the tank, and it happened to stop in a place where we couldn't see it, or it got wedged in the overflow pipe. I was very disappointed. (BTW, I don't blame PC; I was watched the whole time, and neither myself nor the worker could figure out what happened).

I have also seen them on occasion at Aquatic Discoveries up in Sterling Heights.
