Does this actually work better for corals than actual actinic bulbs? I was under the impression that corals need some type of actinic light supplement for them to do well in our tank. I have 14k phoenix right now in my tank with 2 actinic T5, do I need to run the T5? Or is it only used to make the corals pop? Totally confused now.

no its not enough light for corals its a spiral bulb he is just using it for moon lighting and some actinic suppliment.

Its more to make the coral pop.

I will test the output soon with a par meter but I use them because I like the look I get from them. Not sure if it does anything for the corals or not. They come on a hour before and stay on a hour later then my MH.

I was at Erik's a couple weeks ago. The light does look nice. As mentioned above it would simply be for the look you would acheive. IMO

I've been using one of those as a moon light for 6-8 months now.
I have it mounted off center (without a reflector) on a 4 ft 70 galon tank. The light it casts is partialy blocked by my MH reflector. I do not think it helps the corals but it looks verry cool.

I origionaly added it to try and see what was eating my clowns eggs at night. (serpent star) My clownfish seem more relaxed at night with it on so I've left it in place.
