Blue Carpet Haddoni odd or normal???

My carpet has been contracting almost every night into his little cave and he disappears.

Then early in the morning when the lights are about to fire up, he comes out and expands.

His mouth is always closed and never open, and he's attached very firmly on the rock.

I'm just a little concerned because for the first week he didn't do this at all and now he's doing it each night.

My nitrates are 10 ppm but thats what they were when I added him.

Do trates have to be zero with these guys?

I would work on lowering those nitrates, his mouth should always be closed not gaping and he should be firmly attached to a rock. does he contract all night long?

if its a haddoni, they usually prefer to bury their foot in the sand and attach it to a buried object which is usually the glass. I would also make sure your water is just about perfect.

Well,

His mouth is always closed and he's not spilling out anything. He will stay full contracted for the full night and then expand half as much during the day.

He is still feeding, I drop in sinking pellets and he catches them and then brings them to his mouth.

At the base of the rock is a small hole and his body is in it next to the sand bed.

The only clue I think is that I fed him old frozen food formula one. It's been in the freezer for over one year but I never let it thaw out and then re-freeze it.

Anyways I will throw it away and only feed pellets.

In another thread that I posted another reefer mentioned his blue haddoni does the same thing but not his green one; go figure?

i prefer to feed any of my anemones (BTA, H. Mag) fresh seafood, scallpos, squid, raw shrimp, clam..or any of the frozen mysis, brine, krill or silversides over a pellet type food..
