Blue carpet problem?

IMO do not move that anemone- let it move on it's own.
Do you have any other anemones in the same aquarium?

No, he is the only anemone in there.

I figured with the Tunze's and the sps i have, that i had plenty of flow in the tank for any anemone, maybe i was wrong:confused:

That is a bit on th extreme side.

Delphinus (Tony) had a nice video posted but the link is broken.

I might have one to post if I can find it

YIKES!!! That is alot of flow:eek1:

How does the anemone not get injured being pounded against the rocks like that in that video?!?!?! WOW!

I'm certainly not getting anywhere NEAR that type of flow in my tank.

This is very enlightening. I have a blue carpet on the way, and this is becoming a very usefull thread.

Best of luck with yours.

IS that a haddoni? Looks like blue stripe clowns, which do not host in gigantia ( at least according to the books)

Also states it is in 50ft water, which I thought was a little deep for a gigantia.

I have a spot in the middle of my tank where i could move the anemone. I can move my acans(kinda wanted to anyways) and put the carpet in their spot.

He would be about 7-8" closer to the lights and would get ALOT more flow in that spot, not like that video but ALOT.

Tell me when/if you think i should make the move.

Hopefully, you guys are right! He has moved a little and even though it isn't far, he's getting alot more flow where he is now. He's waving around in the flow more than i've seen him so far.

The flow isn't being stopped by that rock he was behind anymore as he's moved in front of it. He seems MUCH happier! This time yesterday, i almost though he was melting he was so pathetic looking.

I'm prayin' it is that simple of a solution, fingers crossed! I'm VERY interested to see if he moves any further to the left where the flow gets even stronger. I REALLY, REALLY hope that he will stay inflated for the whole day and night for once!

Here he is now

But what about the roller coaster ride your Gigantea is on? :D. Just kidding.

You're right, your Gigantea looks like he is enjoying the stronger flow. Hopefully it says that way for a while. Good luck!

Well, he's definitely being blown around now. He's moved way left into very strong flow. He is actually getting tossed around in it. It pushed him under that ledge a little now but i guess he can get himself out, i'm not touching him.

Right now he is fully inflated and his mouth is closed tighter than i have seen it in the last 4-5 days. I'm hoping that is a good sign. He did give my red goniapora a sting though before i could move it. Dang anemone moved like 4-5 inches in about 5 minutes!

Here he is now, you can see how far left he moved from the previous pics. Definitely seems like he wants to be in the higher flow. Don't mind my tangs messin up the picture.

strongly consider removing your Goniopora.
Gonis are highly toxic and IME don't mix well with anemones such as yours.

This coral is the "other anemone" that I suspected might be in your aquarium.

I moved the goni well out of the way. Never heard of them not mixing with anemones.

Is it ok to have it in the same tank as long as i give them plenty of room, such as complete opposite sides?

If not, i like the goni but can certainly do without it(my wife on the other hand may BEAT me if i take it out:cool: )

Anemones and corals can sense each others presence in the wide open ocean. No aquarium, no matter how well filtered or what size it is, is 100% free of allelopathic compounds produced by it's inhabitants. I think what Gary is saying is that it would be best to remove your red Goni. because your Gigantea could still very well be affected by the toxicity of it even if it's on the other side.

I've heard this too for years....but,,,I've also seen many tanks where it doesn't seem to hold true. In my own tank, I house many sps, lps, gonis, rbta's, sebae....with my giganteas. It would be interesting to observe the response/ sensitivity of a carpet by adding/removing.... a goni for example.

I do agree with the flow requirement though.....at least for long term health; but, in the short run, I think shipping and bacterial infections are more of a negative factor. I have an area just for giganteas....it's an area where two 6000gph jets crash above them creating a powerful, chaotic flow. No sps or lps could survive in this area. Here's a pic of my two purple/blue giganteas where I tried to capture the flow. These two were acquired last fall when they were in season......I'm looking to add a few more color morphs this year.

I went to dinner a few hours ago and just before we left he completely deflated again. Got back from dinner and no change. The only upside is that his mouth isn't really gaping at all this time. Usually when he deflates, the mouth starts gaping pretty bad.

Deflated and sad looking:(

steve,
6000 gph? 850g?!

ok, for mere mortals, how many more years do i have to wait until i can try a gigantea? is a 180 large enough?

My closed loop has 4 pumps @ 6000 gph each = 24,000gph
My two returns are 4000gph each.................. = 8,000gph
There are 4 Tunzes 3100 @ 3000 gph each......= 12,000gph

For a total of 44,000 gph on an 850 gal tank.

A 180 is just fine...it's flow and light that matters most.....and of course, getting a healthy carpet (which is not easy).
