Good afternoon guys,

Can anyone identify this carpet, it was given to me by a friend that was breaking down his tank he stated it was sold to him as a blue carpet, its about a foot across , bright blue foot , and very sticky , also ate every fish he had in his tank right before he gave it to me. this is a pic last night maybe a hour after it being acclimated and moved into my tank, any ideas so i can care for it properly

agreed, looks like a gigantea carpet anemone...

tey need high light, high to med indirect flow and they like to set their foot on the rocks... Dont feed it for a week at least until its settled...

From what I can tell its a blue gig and not a happy one... Tentacles should be longer but understandable from being harassed. Probably more flow.

Blue gig, IMO it looks quite healthy, good population of zooxanthelle and only slightly closed up (most likely from the move).

It should do good for you and eat plenty of your fish :)

They are not as bad of fish eaters as haddoni's

+1 gig. IME, they don't eat nearly as many fish as haddoni. Mine hasn't eaten any of my fish, but has stung a few fish (white spots, but unlike ich) that were startled and brushed up against it. I also recommend wearing gloves if you are working on your tank near the gig. If mine stings me, I get a rash, and even scarring when it heals.

Its settled right under my led unit on the rocks , and has started opening up, no flow right on it but there are two powerheads with random flow......so I guess that's a good sign, thanks for the reply.

That would explaine the rash I had on my hand this morning , when I removed it I latched onto my hand and I thought I was never going to get it to let go. And apparently it ate 6 of my friends fish in the last week , from his mandarin to the coral beauty.....so apparently it has a good appetite...thanks for the reply
